AUSTIN,Texas(Reuters)-
Texas lawmakers sent a message to the state's high school cheerleaders Wednesday; no more booty-shaking at the game.
The state's House of Representatives voted 85-55 to approve a bill that would forbid sexy cheers and give the Texas Education Agency authority to punish schools that allow "overly sexually suggestive" routines at football games and other events.
The proposal must go to the Texas Senate for consideration.
"People are calling and telling me how disgusting it is to see sexually suggestive routines on the part of marching units or cheerleaders" said State Rep. Al Edwards, D-Houston, who sponsored the bill.
He complained of cherleaders "shaking their behinds, breaking it down", but the proposal does not define what constitutes suggestive cheering.

 Typical. There is a law to ban it but does not define what IT is...

but the proposal does not define what constitutes suggestive cheering.

The lawmakers/bill sponsor could have made a video of himself showing the suggestive moves

I am reminded of the UK law that defined rave music as "a series of repetetive beats" :D

Frankly, this sort of thing makes me laugh out loud. Oh no, cheerleaders are doing sexy moves, people might get aroused at the sight of young girls jumping about in skimpy outfits! Shock horror!

Dirty is in the mind of the beholder.

True, "dirty is in the mind of the beholder" but with the problems arising with child abuse :( I can see an argument for a tougher stance.

Unfortunately, "Peter has to pay for Paul" ... I think I read/saw something recently about the taking of photos of children in public places? Only the taker of the photo (and possible the person in the development lab if they make a copy) know where those photos are going. The photos or even videos could end up being used for the wrong purposes.

You have to think like a "thief" to catch a "thief".

By the way folks the more often one uses "g****" and "g*******" and the more often it is used as the subject of a new thread the more posts we get of people asking about g*******. Just an FYI.

I've noticed that DF topics show up on Google, often ranked very highly. So the more we talk about g******* the more casual browsers will come on over!

I am in general pretty conservative, but this law really smacks of grandstanding on some politicians part. The state legislature had better things to do than make something illegal that they cannnot define. A better response would be for the Texas Athletic Association, prodded on by parents, to take care of any thing out of line. I had a daughter cheerleader many moons ago. Some of the moves that I have seen on TV as an example would neve have passed the Parent test.--MIne. People need to have a little courage and take a stand with THEIR children, not cop out by getting some government body set the rules. JMHO

Ok, as militantly anti-grinding as I am... I concur that "abolishing" it like that is completely preposterous. What is this, Footloose?

"Thou shalt not grind!"

And how can we talk about grinding if we don't SAY grinding? You KNOW the mods would NEVER go for repetitive use for "sustained periods of poorly-executed vertical fornication"

Besides that, it's damnably long to type

For that matter, I don't have a problem WITH grinding so much as I do yokels who can't do their own homework? You got fingers, YOU type "grinding" into google yourself. We ain't frikkin' OnStar, you know.

The whole thing is entirely wombats.

On a totally non-grinding note, I must say that I can barely restrain my self from comment. Oh. what the heck. Grinders aren't the only ones around here who neglect to use the search function or google on their own behalf. Trust me on that one.  I don't think it's an IQ thing. I think some people aren't yet clued into how much information is there at your fingertips, on the web. Nor do many people realize just how easy some information is to find. So they come here and ask. *shrug* Doesn't bother me, usually. 8)

 True- point well-taken. Actually, you brought to light something- granted grinders tend to ask for help without searching, but the worst ones are the "HELP, it's an EMERGENCY! No, I'm not bleeding to death or haven't been shot, but I need to know how to dance perfectly before tonight's prom/dance/homecoming/whatever life-altering-teenage-chaotic-field-of-status"

Is it so hard to go to Barnes and pick up the new Paul Bottomer? Can't they see the stickies? The STICKIES, man, the STICKIES!!!

It's the plight of anyone offering "tech support" on something, be it dancing, computers, horses, etc. - you run into the people who think that maybe the age-old methods will suddenly CHANGE ... just for THEM... if they ask, and like Richard Simmons said "There ain't no magic pill, honey, you're jutht gonna hafta get up and thweat, thithter!"

:D

What's far worse is that we have so many threads with the words "sexy" and "sex" in them. Guess what kinds of people are drawn by those words?

As far as the proposed bill goes, I personally find it another draconian effort by some of our more conservative lawmakers. It is utterly ridiculous. I can't wait for them to come forward with the definition of the problem in question!

The kind that post spam messages for "adult" websites that our lovely moderators work so hard to delete?

Hmm. Well. Somebody definitely censored my post, since I don't use asterisks in the place of actual words (except the real four-letter kind.) :eyebrow: That said, if the g-word is unwelcome here, eh. Do what you need to minimize the g-related interruptions. *shrug*

Oh great. Now people will think we're talking about the g-spot or something.  :?
And anyway, even if we were a football forum, we'd get sick spammers posting their slimy links. It happens everywhere. Hopefully our moderators are very, very, very hard working and keep the spammers away! :D :D :D
We looooove you!! :kissme:
People, even young people, who don't use the Internet often enough haven't really understood that you can find information on anything you darn please. We should get a banner on top of the page (not anything in neon fuschia!) that says, in easily noticed yet stylish bold print: "Please use the SEARCH function before posting a new thread. It will save you time."
Now that would be an interesting move...
