IDSF Press Release.

The IDSF notes with dismay the motion on the WDDSC General Meeting agenda to accept the IDU as an affiliate member of the WDDSC. This is a particularly provocative move by a group within the WDDSC. We believe that this is an attempt to drive a wedge between the IDSF and those principled and well intentioned members of the profession with whom a relationship of mutual respect and trust has blossomed.

We ask all delegates to the WDDSC AGM to ensure that the IDU motion is defeated. Not deferred, not amended, just defeated. The small self-interested group promoting the IDU know that the IDSF could never tolerate the situation that would develop if this motion is not defeated. This would be a clear declaration of war between the bodies and the IDSF would be forced to take emergency counter measures immediately. The IDSF AGM will await the outcome of the WDDSC AGM with interest.

We ask all members of the profession to note that IDSF has not sought this potential confrontation and does not wish to act in an inflammatory or aggressive way. The IDSF wishes to develop on a path of mutual respect and seeks to maintain the status quo with the profession.

Odd, I wonder how this was supposed to be interpreted then?

Press Release 03/2005
- IDSF will take prompt action against all couples and IDSF Licensed Adjudicators or Chairmen who are involved in any way in any “IDU Competition”, including suspending or revoking their privileges to compete, adjudicate or chair competitions in the IDSF world sporting system.

It certainly doesn't seem like a live-and-let-live or mutual respect sort of policy.

i have no idea what any of this means.

That's the other ironic part... hardly anyone had even heard of the IDU until IDSF decided to declare war on them with a flurry of press releases. In fact, pretty much the only things we know about them are that they can't update their website, and that IDSF hates them.

Obviously no love lost there. Not crazy about how they worded their press release, though.

What does IDU stand for??

IDU = “INTERNATIONAL DANCE UNION” and has started to offer “Amateur Dancesport Competitions” in some countries (such as Russia). As such the notion of WDDSC acceptance of the IDU clearly comes into conflict with the IDSF's status as the governing body for amateur dancesport.

As far as the wording of IDSF press releases in general, I'm guessing that part of the problem is that the press releases are in English which is not a native language for those issueing them.

I wonder why the IDU is doing that. Meaning, setting up amateur dancesport comps, when everybody knows that IDSF is in charge.

I wonder. :?

It's all just an unending power struggle amongst sports administrators. IDU is quite strong in Eastern Europe. WD&DSC is looking for an amateur organization to ally with so as to wrest International Olympic Committee recognition away from the IDSF.

Thanks, Laura.

Yeah. That's the feeling I was getting, as well. A stinkin power struggle. I wonder if the powers-that-be don't realize that the actual athletes just want to dance, for the most part. :?

No one Organization rules the World (except for the World Salsa Federation) (just kidding IDO).

Yah, I do realize I'm posting a little late, but what does AGM stand for?
