MMM...I'm gonna get hungry on this thread...
My absolute favorite is a fresh-from-the-oven large Papa John's pizza (restaurant chain) with hand-tossed crust, pepperoni and extra cheese. Don't forget the side of ranch for dipping. YUMMY!

My favourite pizza is the pizza a friend of mine brings over for free. She manages a couple of franchise stores and a couple of times a month, or if we feel the need to chat, she shows up on my doorstep with a couple of pizzas, garlic bread, chicken strips, etc. I usually have enough to take for lunch for a couple of days to work as well!!
She plays around with the toppings, so it's never a stock standard menu item. Though at the moment there is a promotion on with a pizza base with a cream cheese layer in the middle. My friend also puts pepperoni in with the cream cheese, and it is divine!

Yep. Definitely has to be hand-tossed for me, too, ddl. Never have understood the appeal of thin crust, although to each his own. 8)

However, that's not available near home (near all the places I frequent though)

Thanks. I figured cheese, but then there are cheese pizzas, so I was wondering what was so special about this one. I prefer cold pizzas, myself and for breakfast or as a snack when I'm hungry.

MY PIZZA is the best! Wholewheat crust, tons of cheese, tomato sauce with garlic and herbs, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, anchovies, ground beef and occasionally asparagus. Thick crust, not that paper-thin parchment crap. Lots of jalapenos on hand (& sometimes chipotles or even habaneros) for piling on later.
Japanese pizza is not to my liking, so I always make it myself. Japan takes the cake for oddest toppings- here's a partial list;
chicken nuggets
corn
rice cakes(omochi)
sardines
octopus
squid
mayonnaise
cream sauce
potatoes
hard-boiled eggs
grilled noodles
clams
marinated chicken
seaweed
cabbage
teriyaki chicken
(All of the above sacrilegious toppings are from the "Pizza Royal Hat" menu in my newspaper!)

Papa Murphy's -- take it home and bake it. Their supreme, double crust, is so thick with toppings and cheese, takes two hands to carry it. One pizza makes three meals for my dh and myself! Probably a zillion calories wrapped up with that double crust.

Ok folks ... how do you like your Pizza?
Where is the best Pizza on the planet?
I love old fashioned, layered crust, Chicago style pizza. I had from a real Chicago style pizza place many years ago and I can't wait to get some more from out there some day. UNOs has a decent Chicago style, but I haven't been thrilled with past experiences.
Hot? Cold? Hot and Cold?
Definitely hot! 8)

What is your favorite topping(s)?
Tend to be a meat lover, Pepperoni, Sausage, Hamburger, Real Bacon, Canadian Bacon, but I like green peppers, too. :D

On my drive to work this morning I was thinking about this thread (I know, I have got to get a life...) and realized there are two essential types of pizza missing from this discussion.
In addition to my previous pizza post, I would like to add to entirely seperate styles of pizza.
The first, vegetable pizza...not a hot pizza with regular tomato type sauce, but an actual vegetable pizza - frozen crescent rolls laid flat and baked, after cooled add the sauce (I think its some mixture of cream cheese or sour cream with veggie dip) and toppings (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, tomatos, etc. Eat uncooked.
The second, fruit pizza...same crust as veggie pizza, sauce is cream cheese and topping include slided strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, blueberries, etc.
Oooh - one more quick pizza type...dessert pizza. I love Pizza Hut's hot, fresh dessert pizzas. Both the appled and the strawberry ones are good...drizzled with creamy frosting. Yummy!

That's yucky! I've been to Korea 20 times and have had pizza there many times and have never seen that. I did see tabasco over there, which is really popular in Japan, too. Tastes good, but lotsa sodium. I prefer those chili flakes we get in the states...

When I make cheese and toast, ketchup is often very liberally applied. Messy, potentially. Yummy? Most definitely!
Sometimes, I will even use raw tomatoes in addition, plus lots of pepper. If I have olives, some of those may be added as well, perhaps some ham will be grilled... almost like a pizza really, except it is a bread slice base rather than a dough base

Actually, the Japanese LOVE tabsco, but in very small quantities. I can drink the stuff(=it's not hot enough for me) so I don't waste my time with it, especially since it is loaded with salt. The younger generation of Japanese has become accustomed to more spicy fare these days, and there is a "Korean boom" happening at the moment.

I really miss that option, DP. Living in Japan, buying pizza is practically cost prohibitive and when you get home and open the box, you will most likely find weird stuff on it like squid legs, corn and the like... I resort to making it myself, with wholewheat ctust and the freshest vegetable toppings I can find. No critters!

My favorite is a thin whole wheat crust with salsa, mozzarella, cheddar, and then the rest dressed up like a taco pizza, substituting beef for grilled chicken. Nobody here likes it that way.

I wasn't saying you were trendy, I was just making the assumption that sushi had already taken America by storm years ago, and that most people would be quite accustomed to/fond of it by now...
*giggle* I was just kidding.
I agree. Sushi's a heck of a lot easier to find in the US now than it was, even ten years ago. All the supermarkets near me sell it. Three or four of the markets even have a standalone sushi bar with an actual human being (what do you call a sushi chef? :? ) on staff all day to make sushi fresh. So yeah, I guess you could call that trendy. *shrug*

That's great, the widespread popularity of sushi & now people being able to enjoy it, economically I hope, even at one's local supermarket.
Sushimaker I believe would be the proper terminology in English. Most sushimakers go through rigorous training and must finish apprenticeships before becoming a full-fledged sushimaker.

Yeah. It's pretty cool and reasonably priced. About $6 for a tray of eight of the veggie/rice thingies, IIRC (no idea what they're called. I just know I like them. ) And a bit more for anything involving fish. But, either way, affordable. 8) :D

This is funny- wasabi is not served at sushi restaurants in Japan. A dab is usually added under the slice of fish (take a look next time!). The ginger is called "gari" and is used as a "palate cleanser" when you eat different kinds of fish. I love the ginger, too! :)

Just kidding. Trendy's okay for restaurants, IMO. Just not for people. I'd rather choose what I read, watch, listen to and eat based on what I like, rather than what's in style. So I can sometimes be spotted at trendy places, but cometimes at totally un-hip venues. *shrug* 8) Eh.

Take a look at the stats. If they're anything like the salmon scare stats from a couple years back, they stats represent the relative levels of contamination, not absolute. (e.g. twice as much as a tiny bit is still a pretty tiny bit. ) Yep. Still contaminated, but read the fine print carefully before you get scared enough to give up your favorite fish. My two cents. 8)

The salmon scare taught me that lesson. The price of canned salmon tanked and people were avoiding it left and right. But, when I finally heard a real statistician analyse the results of the study, there was essentially very little difference in the risks. No, if I was pregnant or had HIV or cancer, I wouldn't go out and eat a ton of salmon or tuna. But, since none of those is true, I don't spend a lot of time worrying about it. 8)

Well, it's a lot different in the U.S. actually. Sushi places here do all these fancy combo rolls and stuff, but somehow it's never as good as the basic stuff that they serve in Japan. I never liked sushi until I went to Tokyo a few years ago. I tried some there, and it was delicious! Thought maybe I'd been missing some, so I tried again when I got back. No... bad as ever.

i remember in psychology, the prof told us a story. When we our brain receives information, it immediately distinguishes whether or not the source is reliable (ie, if you know it's a rumor, then it's deemed unreliable). But gradually over time, you "forget" about the source and only that information retain in the brain. Moral of the story? when you spread a rumor and if you wait long enuf, the person will believe that it's true!

I miss good pizza. There's not any that's really great here. My favorite is from a little dive in my home town called Pizza Oven. That's near Buffalo, NY. I've never tasted anything like it anywhere else before. The sauce is sweet. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. It's also a secret family recipe too.
I've since reduced my greasy food intake so I suppose it's a good thing I don't live near good pizza anymore (although some is not very greasy). I indulge when I visit my parents. There was a brick oven pizza chain in Boston I really liked and that wasn't greasy. I think it was called Bertucci's.
I used to like only pepperoni, but I've been experimenting some. I think my favorite is pepperoni and pineapple. I don't like the ham or canadian bacon that usually comes with pineapple (i.e. "hawaiian").
Now I'm hungry. I must go to lunch...

What's the deal with Chicago style pizza? What exactly does that mean, anyway? :?
There might be a variety of definitions, but to me "Chicago style" refers to a very deep dish pie, smothered with cheese. In my opnion, the consumate example is the pie served by Geno's East on Superior Street near Michigan Avenue. They have a web site, but I don't remember if forum guidelines allow me to provide it here.

And back to topic...I don't really like pizza, but I think home-made is always the best.
I've got a few slices of pizzas left in my fridge and now i'm wondering whether or not i should just microwave them or just throw them in the oven and hope they'll come out not-rock-hard!

If you put them in the oven, they turn out more pizza-like and less chewy than in the microwave, IMO. You can avoid rock-hard of you sprinkle them with a TEENY bit of water and wrap them in aluminum foil, to heat them.

I had a sausage pizza at Pizzeria Uno last weekend.
I can't recall the last time I ate there, like maybe 6 or 7 years ago. I have so often been disaapointed with the service that is rec'd, or perhaps lack there of at these places.
Anyway, I got daring, and I hadn't had old fashioned Chicago style in a while. Unfortunately, I was surprised at the size seeming to be smaller then the last time I ordered one of their big pizzas, even further back then my last visit to a P.U. It tasted good, and I enjoyed the conversation with my SO. Heck the service wasn't bad, yet it did seem like she didn't want to really be there. Oh well. Could be longer till I go again.

Mmmm....you're making me hungry, Elena. You're also making me remember fondly (what we nicknamed) the "Carcass Pizza" that a friend and I ordered from Eastown Pizza (http://www.citymedia.ca/cgi-bin/publish.cgi?p=141&s=restaurants) in London, Ontario. We had driven down to pick up my sister from school after an exam and decided to pop in after seeing the sign advertising award-winning pizza. Oh my goodness, it was delightful! Four cheeses, pepperoni, bacon, ham, sausage, ground beef, chicken and prosciutto. They also offer the "Cheech and Chong", which is a hemp pizza and actually pretty good!

Had chicken marsala pizza last night - was decent.
But i'd really like the version you just described, fasc...salty, piquant, massively flavorful. Never had that combo.
