I was watching Dancing with the Stars last night and was really amazed by the dancers. I don't know much about the show so the question could sound pretty silly. Have they really only been dancing for 2 months (more or less)?? It seems impossible to me that beginner dancers could be that good (or maybe I'm just a slow learner :roll: ??) I was told that these dancers might have background in other kind of dances (ie, jazz/disco...etc) but can dance skills be transferred like that? I would think jazz & ballroom dancing are completely different. What does everyone think?

Each pair of dancers has a member of the pair that is a pro-dancer and so this helps make it look as good as it sometimes does. It is my understanding that the other members the pair are very new to dance, but they are working at it 6-8 hours per day before the next show or something like that.

The am half of the couples have only been dancing for 8 or 9 weeks now, but the training is intensive. (6-8 hours a day/6-7 days a week depending on the pair)

As far as other dance experience translating to ballroom goes, it can be quite different. I have an extensive background in ballet, tap and jazz, and I had to relearn how to walk when I started ballroom. *shakes a fist at toe releases* It can definitely help with posture and hearing the beat of the music, but there's still a pretty steep learning curve to overcome. At least, there has been for me so far....and I still have a LONG way to go.

Does intensive training pays off at the end? ie, would you get better result if you dance 6-8 hours per day for a week or a 1-2 hours per day everyday for a month?

I used to do that for tennis but I find the result isn't as good if I'm only a beginner. It works better if I already know the basics but just need to re-emphasize the muscle memory bit.

we try, but everyone just keeps starting new ones. I am going to lock this one (as with all the others) and just refer everyone to the current thread... week 4.

I think starting a new one each week made sense, that way people could read anything up unitl the week that they haven't had a chance to see yet without spoiling anything. But we certainly don't need 4 new ones each week.
