your toddler falls asleep in your lap at the computer...

In my case, I crunched some numbers since I was curious....

I wondered if there were lotsof people who never ever posted to DF. I thought it couldn't possibly be many. And I was sure that there weren't all that many hit and run posters (you know less than 2 posts ever). I could NOT have been more wrong.....

The results are:

Insane? Watch it, buddy.  (I've been called worse. )

And yep, DM. The vast majority of DF members have never posted anything. I wonder what makes people join but stay in lurk mode. *shrug*

Oh yeah and btw. About the sleeping toddler in your lap, the answer, IMO, depends.

If she's all sweet-smelling and fluffy and and cutesie, steal some extra hugs and kisses while she sleeps. It can be such a breath-takingly Kodak kinda moment.

On the other hand, if you're plumb tired and sick of kids for the moment, get your husband to whisk her away to her bed, so you can get a break. Either way, you win. 8)

True. Many people feel like they have to become a member just to read posts etc and so do so...

Yeah. That's why I joined. 8)

That's a true story. I'd checked out a couple other forums that were restricted so that only members could view anything. So when I came here (via Showtime Dance Shoes IIRC) I assumed I had to join in order to view posts. I had no way of knowing I could lurk without joining. *shrug*

Fortunately, there was an active thread that day which piqued my interest. And now, 20+ thousand posts and almost two years later, here I am. Life is good. 8) :D

She got plopped in bed alright. :) And I got to watch some DVDs of ST: Voyager. It was definitely a win/win for me. Only problem with #2 Child is that she has ears like.... I dunno.... Supersonic hearing. Can't even flush the toilet in the house when she sleeps. OR ELSE.

I'm glad you got a little break.

And about the supersonic hearing, I think you're right. Every parent with multiple kids seems to have one big-eared offspring. My mom used to say the same about me and my twin sister, Jessica. Jessica would drop right off to sleep. But I'd stay up til all sorts of ridiculous hours, making my parents miserable.

Awww, how adorable! Sleeping toddler on lap! :D
About the statistics... well I did post a thread once about how half of DF's members have never posted a single THING. Have gotten used to it by now.

Oh wow, a kid who's half Chihuahua [grin -- just kidding, of course]. When I'd be on the computer, the dog always wanted to lie in my lap, which gave my abductors (I think that's what those inner-thigh muscles are called) quite a workout trying to maintain a lap. After he'd nearly slip through a dozen times he'd finally leave in disgust. Too bad they don't make house-kilts. No problem now; the x2b has the dog and consistently ignores my inquiries about how he's doing.

Our boys were toddlers long before we had any kind of on-line life (I think I had just started with CompuServe, but that was back when all we had was dial-up and our connect-time was charged by the minute, so it was get in and out fast and do as much of our reading and writing off-line as you could). So at least when they did fall asleep in our lap, it was while we were sitting watching TV, a much more comfortable position to be in than being in front of the computer.

I am also curious why so many people would register and never post. I am by nature very shy and reluctant to join any group unless I have a good reason or strong interest in participating. When I find a forum of interest, I will read the threads for information and will not register until I actually want to post a response or a question. So the idea of registering without posting is foreign to me.

Now, there are some fora that do require you to register before you can even read. Our local swing forum (http://www.ocswing.com/forum/) had to be taken down a year ago because of offensive posters (mainly cross-overs from Jive Junction), so when it was revived the administrator felt it necessary to more strictly control access, with included registering (which he would review and approve or disapprove) before you could read anything. Fortunately, we were able to get him to lift the read restrictions, but I guess there are still fora out there that restrict reading to registered members.

There are only 7 people in the 400 - 500 group and I'm one of 'em! 8)

Wonder who the others are? I'll be checking to find out! :D
