HERE YE, HERE YE!

It has recently come to my attention that it will be a very long time before I'm eligible for membership in the Insomniacs R' Us club, if ever. Due to this unfortunate acceptance, I've decided to create a new club that is potentially open to everyone:

The EARLY RISERS CLUB!

The basic rules are quite simple and listed below:

1. You must NEVER go to bed past midnight
2. You must be in bed by 10 pm (10:30 ok if you brush your teeth first)
3. You must get up no later than 6 am (later times accepted if you have a really good excuse, details of which shall not be discussed here)

Other criteria that may be substituted for membership:

a) You get to work an hour early to do Tai Chi outside the office
b) You eat your lunch while you work, then exercise during your lunch break
c) You get up and go jogging in the morning (riding a treadmill while for sissies, may also be accepted)
d) You don't own or watch television
e) You know what cold-water dousing is
f) You exercise 3 or more times a day (in addition to dance)

Criteria that will most certainly terminate your membership (or bar you from it for life):

a) You go to bed later than an Early Riser wakes up
b) You start your night out dancing after an Early Riser goes to bed
c) You work a graveyard shift
d) You skip breakfast in the morning
e) All of the local club owners know you by name

Any potentially qualified applicants may reply to this message for consideration.

*Note - Anyone who engages in the practice of Tai Chi, Yoga, Mongolian Throat Singing, Wave Punching or Bellydancing may be able to bypass all of said rules. SueK - If you've ever studied Chen style, then you're already in. :)

LOL! SG, I hate to tell you this, but I qualify for membership in both clubs. You see, I'm a true insomniac. In bed by ten 99% of the of the time, and awake again by 1:30. So I'm in bed with the early risers, and up again with the insomniacs. Your criteria have loopholes.  What do you have to say to that?

Come to think of it, I guess I'll have to wait a few hours for any reply, since, like the good early riser you are, you're probably sleeping away peacefully with visions of Tai Chi dancing in your head! Good night! :D

I'm up very early to go running in the morning...well early to me - 6:30. Does this count? I also stay up past ten though. And sometimes my dancing starts after ten. Can I join, oh please please can I huh huh? can i?

Apparantly I qualify[1], despite only rarely seeing 6am from either side. But then along with Marx, I'm not sure I'd want to belong to any club that would have me as a member.

Jenn,

Qualifying for both clubs is most certainly acceptable, and in fact, encouraged! Of course my criteria have loopholes! I in fact will most likely fail membership in my own club, as I can switch from a morning person to nightowl with no problem. But since I invented the Early Risers Club, I can break my own rules. :)

Well, I actually got up at 4:30 am this morning...and that's a tad early even for me. Visions of Tai Chi dancing...hmm...more like beautiful Saleras...yes....zzzzz.......

Oooh, I love sarcasm! :P

I suppose 6:30 is acceptable. Remember, past 10 is ok time to time, but staying up past midnight is not. Hmm, you may join if you answer this one question for me:

Please explain your profile picture that looks like you are eating a license plate...does this have any religious signifigance? I'm curious to know. :)

Thank you...now I understand why all of the guys here want to marry you! And that's fine, so long as I get to dance with you once at the wedding. :)

I think a better vision would be a lady that enjoys dancing with me! I'm still amazed now that I dance, how many people I meet that don't, never have, or are scared to death of it!

I didn't get to go out Salsa dancing due to some things that came up...but this Friday I'm going Swing dancing come hell or high water! Time to see how much of a fool I can make of myself doing Lindy Hop. :P

It's a liscence plate frame that says "it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing." I took that picture so I could email it to a friend who wanted to see what it looked like. In the avatar it does sort of look strange and like I'm eating it, lol. But really I'm just sticking my head behind it and pointing. :P

As a belly dancer I qualify...hooray!!!!

Weeknights...it's bed by 10:30-11:00 p.m. with teeth brushing.
Weekends...much later...

Weekdays...wakeup by 6:00-6:15 a.m. and am ready for work at least 20 minutes before needing to leave the house in which I usually read.
Weekend...been getting up around 7:00-8:00 a.m. for errands and membership classes at church.

Exercise...I'm working on it...perhaps I'll have to add yoga to my morning routine and belly/yoga to my evening routine.

Do I qualify???? Please!!!!!! :o  :? :D

Hmm, I believe although technically you would not qualify for the Early Risers Club, being the Admin of this site and putting up with wiseguys like myself entitles you to a special honorary membership.

You're in! :)

Ok SG, if I take up yoga this Thursday will that qualify me?

Perhaps Jon, but you're not getting in that easy. I will consider your membership if you answer these questions after your yoga class:

1. What style of yoga (hatha, iyengar, bikram, etc)?
2. Explain the posture called "Downward facing Dog"
3. What color is your Yoga mat?

Bonus Questions that will result in INSTANT membership:

1. You ask your teacher to teach you the "Dancer's Pose" and can do it without falling over.
2. Describe the 7 Major Chakras
3. Be able to perform the Crow pose.
4. Your teacher has studied with Rodney Yee

DDD,

You certainly more than qualify! I used to sort of hang out with a group of Belly dancers until I made the mistake of asking one out...but I hold no grudge against you others for that folly of mine. Be careful of OVER qualifying though...having more qualifications than the founding member is a sure way to have your membership revoked! :P

Yoga is great for a morning work out. I'm still confused as to why no one does Mongolian Throat Singing though...anyone? Wave punching? No dice I see.

Thanks for the double standard SG...Site Admin is in by default and Site Moderator has to jump through hoops!

Anyway, several of the yoga classes offered at my gym don't list a style but the ones that do list them as hatha yoga. Being not entirely novice I can already tell you that downward dog essentially creates a trriangular shape with your feet and hands on the ground, your hips at the apex, and the body striving for elongation both through the legs and arms/shoulders. And, FYI, my yoga matt is blue. So there...

LOL this is all very funny.

I know I haven't posted in the last couple of days that's because I've been going to bed around 9 and getting up around 4:30 to get to school early to get my work done.

Plus I know and occasionally practice Tai Chi (Cheng short form)-- I don't do it as much I'd like.

So what's the verdict?

Aww...but Dancer's pose is so beautiful. I had actually been doing it for years as a Qi Gong stretch...just never had a name for it. The Crow is my favorite...but yes...it is a tough one...but a wonderful strength builder. :)

To my fellow ERC members,

I have made a grave error in misjudgement! I believe the only way to make up for this is first to revoke DanceMentor's membership. So, effective immediately, you're out! (sorry) :o

In order to make up for this inappropriation of civility, I have several questions for DanceMentor to answer to re-enter the Early Risers Club. And no help from the other members! (Jenn - thou shalt not use thy Google search!)

So, here are the questions:

1. Please tell me the history of the "Shim-Sham" dance.

2. Describe the Pythagorean Theorem

3. Explain the history and meaning of the "Kordax Dance"

Good luck!

2. Describe the Pythagorean Theorem

Once upon a time there was an American Indian[1] Chief who, being a powerful and respected man had three wives. In accordance with the tribal custom, each wife was given a blanket, indicating her status. The most junior wife had the skin of a spotted pony, the middle one had a fine furry buffalo skin, while the most senior wife was given an immensly rare and immensly immense (she was a large lady) blanket made of an entire hippopotamus skin!

Time passed, and the middle wife and the junior wife both presented the chief with fine baby boys. The senior wife, sadly, remaned childless.[2] The chief loved her well enough though that he acted against tribal custom and refused to turn her out or even to demote her, and she remained the matriarch of the growing family. The other wives were jealous and their resentment grew along with their boys. Eventually they decided to send their sons, now strapping young warriors[3] to do away with the senior wife....
The young men sneaked behind her teepee in the middle of the night, slit open it with their tomahawks and crept inside meaning to kill their stepmother as she lay sleeping. They hadn't reckoned on the protective properties of hippopotamus skin, and instead of killing her with one mighty blow they succeeded only in waking the great lady into a towering rage as she defended herself against them.

Meanwhile the Chief sat calmly outside the teepee, enjoying his pipe as the battle raged thunderously within. `Aren't you to do anything?' asked someone in the rapidly gathering crowd.
`No' said the Chief, `The squaw of the hippopotamus hide is equal to the sons of the squaws of the other two hides.'[4][5]

Cheers
Sarah

Look, SG, lets get this straight from the start - I am a modern girl and expect to take an equal share in the responsibilities of a relationship. So you can do the messing up of cross body leads, and in return I will take responsibility for the stomping on of toes. Deal? ;)

A "squiz?" -- not a term in use over here!

As far as the logistics of her top, no tape needed... it has all of the structural elements, just not all the cup material you'd expect.

I'm not asking for marriage...but while we're on that thread, let's list the men who have asked to marry you again. This is only to my limited knowledge of browsing the forums and most likely wrong:

1. Damon - aka D-Nice
2. Fernando Cruz aka Senor Salsa Ryhthms
3. Not sure...I am suspecting Jon aka Mr. SDSalsaguy?

I'm not asking for marriage or anything long term! And please feel free to decline my offer...but if you're not interested...then I of course can return to groping my dance partners.

Sometimes it helps ignoring this, and sleep a little longer.

Unfortunately this doesn’t help on the problem with the missing hours to get the 24 hours to break even.

SK,

I meant both of you! After the day I had......closed freeways....my friend and I got read ended by a bunch of yahoos while we were lost on a dirt road in a very rural part of AZ....she missed her flight...my flight was delayed....trust me it was just about the most hellacious day of my life! At least I came out in one piece with some whiplash...could have been a lot worse!

So, thank you both for saying you missed me! *hugs* *blows kisses*. I missed y'all and the group too. :)

Back in one piece is the best way to look at it! I'm in a lot of pain today from the whiplash...but tomorrow is Salsa class at my new school and I ain't missing that. :)

It was a very wonderful trip...to say the least. I actually still have a slight twang to my voice from spending almost 10 days there...ha ha.

Welcome back - sounds like you've got the makings of an entertaining story there anyway.

That's for sure! I went to a really intense MA seminar and miraculously came through without a bruise...and then on the way home we get in a car accident...go figure.

However, I did not go dancing or even practice any basics...I had so many other things to do. But since I gained 5 pounds from all that yummy Southwestern food...I'll have to out on the dance floor real soon to shape up. :)

take care,

Well, actually I was up last night baking cookies for a Christmas party at work today, and I was up until midnight since I make them from scratch. Naturally I had to sample a few to make sure they came out ok (yum)...but I only bake cookies for others, never for myself (I really don't need to gain any more weight).

Another sellout this year...everyone ate all of my cookies...all 5 dozen worth! I'm actually not bad in the kitchen...I think I'd make some lucky lady an excellent wife...er I mean husband!

While membership for ERC does say that you should be in bed before 11 pm, this is most certainly some excellent progress! I'm most impressed Jon. Getting ready for those 9 am classes? :)

I was just resting on my bed last night at about 10 pm...and then I fell asleep and woke up at 1 am. Then actually crawled into bed and slept soundly until 6 am. Got up for a bit, and then went back to sleep until a little after 10 am! As you can see - I really did qualify for both the IRU and the ERC! Ode to the Insomniacs are Us Club

Going to bed is for sissies, that’s what we say.
Our greatest fear is the bright light of the day.

Though most sane folks would be safely in bed,
Operatives of the IRU would rather stay up instead.

Believe it my friend, we stay out every night,
Engaging in sin, to drink, dance and fight.

Dishes that are dirty litter the sink,
Jobs as night watchmen keep us away from the brink.

Out all night in the clubs, asleep during the day,
Never trust anyone who lives their life this way.

Armies of vampires, zombies, ghosts and ghouls,
Tread lightly in our presence, you ERC fools!

Hiding away from the light,
Always prowling by night,
Never getting proper sleep, for such is our plight.

Well, I wasn't happy with how I danced.

...but it was my first time back on the floor in close to two years. So, at the least, it got some nerves out of the way for next time and provided direct feedback for what I want to do differently (and how).

After I danced I had a great time though, visitng and shmoozing with different people there... and seeing a show (there first one since his recent knee surgery at that) by Slavik & Karina (http://www.dance-forums.com/album/showphoto.php?photo=30&password=&sort=1&cat=500&page=1)Saturday night! :D

Well, *shrug* I still salsa as per usual. Sleeping time can be trained 8) ...

(this is nothing compared to what I used to do.....salsa all night then go straight to work  )

Dancing all night and going to work ain't bad. It is the getting a few hours of sleep, but no way enough part that hurts!! :(

Checking in after being up since 4:50a.m.

But didn't SG say that ERC membership included going to bed before 11pm?

Yes I did, but remember the one true rule of the ERC is that THERE ARE NO RULES! Of course, only I am allowed to break them...the rest of you are on borrowed ERC time! :D  :D

Of course, once the Salsa fever hit me I rarely get up early anymore...but such is life! :P

Oh well...anyone else up at this seemingly early hour???

I don't think you can really call yourself an early riser if you haven't yet been asleep! this is definately an IRU post!

Now now my dear sweet Swingin' Kitten, I posted to the IRU as well. I did get maybe an two or three hours of sleep...and I crawled into bed at 1 am until I woke up at about 4:30 and couldn't get back to sleep.

So, this qualifies as both the IRU and the ERC! And since the sleep deprivation is due to dancing (especially Salsa!), then I have full diplomatic immunity from any types of comments to the contrary. :D

By the way, here's a kiss for you! :kissme:

Take care sweets,

8:15 am here...I went to bed at 10:00 pm last night...man did I catch up on sleep.

I did go Ballroom dancing last night...and hopefully without offending anyone, I was bored to tears! I just have no desire to learn those dances...the call of Lady Salsa is too strong! ;)

Not to mention the beautiful girl that was supposed to be there didn't show...ah, oh well. Anyway, I'll make up for it with a Salsa dance party tonight and Sunday night.

Anyone else up at this early hour?

N ow I know you're a talented woman. (I knew that all along, of course) Patchwork quilting is an art and a science, and quite a skill. I think I told you before my Mom does it, and it's amazing to watch. She can look at something, decide to make a quilt out of it, create the pattern, break it down into logical pieces, conceive the integrated picture, design it and put it together. Amazing. Unfortunately, with al the competition from machine made, mass produced quilts, a lot of people don't understand the value of the real thing. :? :(

I admire you, salsachinita. :notworth:

An Australian friend makes some amazing quilts  She will use her husband's old ties (he dislikes ties so they become "old" quite quickly  ) and the thought she puts into them! Each one has a story to tell  I wish sometimes I had the patience to do something like that. But I would have to use a sewing machine that stitches at 1,000 miles an hour, and use "plain squares" to make it quickly, and then have it quilted. Basically, the one day quilt for me

salsachinita
03-25-2004, 06:56 PM
Hey, my quilts are really make-able ( is there such word?)!

They are rotary-cut & machine-pieced......while not exactly one day, you can make it in a couple of weeks.

The whole point of my teaching is to show people how to make beautiful quilts with effective design/use of different colours & patterns, with logical methods. I show lots of tips & tricks to make life easy 8) .

Ok, nothing beats good ol' hand pieced/quilted heirlooms, but life is simply too short.......there are many quilts to be made! I wanna create more in my lifetime.

I am also promoting the revival of quilt making to the younger generation...this is NOT a 'granny craft'.....! We need new blood, as we do in salsa.

Now, back to dance mode......this is not a patchwork/quilting forum   .

My Mom has made me several, but I think my favorite is a rendition of the "tumbling blocks" pattern with blocks about the size of a walnut. The colors are SO beautiful. She does original designs, too. And then, just for kicks, she likes to make variations of old traditional patterns, like log cabins (at least a million variations of that one) wedding rings, etc. I've been meaning to get started for the longest time. quilting is a family tradition. :D

6 am checking in... I've been around for half an hour already though

-- I hear you on the quilting, Jenn, both my grandmother's do/did it... one has made nearly 100  she says she's done ;) I think it is something I would like to do... I would want to start off simple ... but if there are any tips and tricks you'd like to empart chinita I'd be happy to hear them! :D

After 40 hours of missing sleep..this definitely is not the right place to be asking for admission Neo! As the founder of the ERC club, I'll have you know I went to bed at 1 am this morning...and woke up at 4 am to write down a cool dream that I had.

Umm...yeah....so the point is...hmm...yes I gotta do some yoga and get ready for Salsa class.

Did someone say Salsa? Yes...life is good. :)

Ok, its time for new memberships with the ERC, the hippest, most happening club in the DF House!

(at least in my fantasy world, anyway!) :D

Its 7 pm, and I'm up doing laundry, getting ready to fix dinner and working on my new Salsa basics (and listening to some very sad Bachata). By 10 pm it'll be bed time, but I will check in tomorrow morning! And I better see some new recruits...and staying up all night Salsa dancing doesn't count (but it does earn you some points in my book, regardless)! :P

Yours in a good night's sleep,

ScorpionGuy
