Hey DF fans, Vince and I happened to be at the same wedding reception (dancers of course) and he recognized me from my photos and introduced himself. We even got to dance together! Very cool. I even got a photo of us to memorialize our meeting. Who can guess what dance we are doing? :D :D :D
Hey Vince, if you're out there, check out our photo! Wayne must have been concentrating on our faces and missed our cool pose with my foot in the air!!!! ha ha!!

Pam,
You bet I saw it. I was waiting for you to post it.

Nice picture . . . we're maybe one of the very first members of DF to actually meet. Like you said with the picture . . . First DF Reunion! I had fun . . . thanks, and . . . you are a great follower!!!

Wish you guys were going to San Diego on the 31st . . . I'm going to attempt to meet SD while there. Guess I better tell him about it, eh???

I was supposed to meet up with another DFer tonight, but we got our wires crossed. I showed up for the early classes, and I bet she's showing up foe the late ones.

Oh well, there's a salsa club outing Friday, and I'm hoping we'll both be there.

Isn't that so cool...meeting people that you probably never would have met otherwise? Thanks for saying I'm a good follower. I was a little nervous. You could probably tell.

I wish we were going to San Diego too, just to meet SDguy, (although I still couldn't dance with him with only two lessons under my belt). We've never gone to the San Diego event. We just don't like driving that far and we're going to Mountain Magic in Reno in Nov. so we're trying to space them out. Hope you have fun Vince.

You think that matters to me? Fine, so I wouldn't try and lead you through every pattern I know...so what??? On the technical side of things you already have knowledge and familiarity with partnering and following, something which can't be said fo any number of "I'm not a beginer"s. More to the point, you enjoy danicng and understand that it is about having fun! So, unless you absolutely refuse to have fun dancing with me, then there's no reason that I wouldn't dance with you... so there!

You were nervous? I was nervous and so out of practice!

San Diego is only a 6 hour drive from here . . . we only drive because we go with a couple that just refuses to "fly."

And SD already answered you, but you know you would also have a great dance with him leading you.

Wow, I guess you told me. I was just trying to save your feet and my little bit of pride because I'm not a very good beginner. I like knowing what I'm doing before I embarass myself, but if you're willing and know my level of dance, I'd be very pleased to dance with you SDguy. :D (I do hope you have steel-toed dance shoes and shin guards, just as a precaution. )

Yep, I've known a couple of members for a few years now... but I do think this was our first in-person DF introduction.

Pygmalion and I were going to meet up at the USDSC down in Hollywood Beach back in Sep. -- which would have been the first -- but she got rained in and I flew back to SD the next morning!

DF introductions update: Vince and his wife were in town for a UCWDC event she was competing in so I had the opportunity to meet them yesterday (as did msc)! :D

It was great to meet them – such very nice people – and very interesting to see and compare an UCWDC event to the ballroom events I am familiar with. As I said to Vince and Carolyn though, I hadn’t known how much crack these people must be smoking… they actually thought I knew what I was doing in dances other then salsa!

Carolyn, BTW, is a superb follow… she claims that it was only her second time dancing salsa… but let me tell you, she was getting through some fairly sophisticated stuff like a champ! (…Which, of course, I would not have been leading if she weren’t keeping up!) Oh yeah, she also said she wanted to learn more salsa now and that she wanted to come to the 1st DF family “reunion” in Reno! :bouncy::bouncy::bouncy:

It was a long weekend, but yes, we did meet. I believe Jonathan arrived around noon and he left wa-a-a-a-ay after midnight.

SD and msc are really great guys . . . and great dancers. msc kept venturing off to where I couldn't observe him to much, but I did catch him Waltz . . . and "yep," he can Waltz.

SD deservedly can interject anytime that he wants into Salsa posts/conversations, as THE GUY CAN SALSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ladies, you just have to go to Reno to experience Jonathan.

I'm sure no one was on 'crack' as SD mentions . . . it's just that everyone in the UCWDC federation treats everyone like family. There's not a lady that will refuse a dance, as SD found out. I certainly hope that his WCS came a notch or two this weekend???

Carolyn is one of the best at following . . . she is always in demand for dances. By the way . . . she did win 1st Overall! She achieved some her highest scores ever this weekend.

We're both ready to learn to Salsa . . . Jonathan . . . are you available?

Parting note . . . SD, guess who I met the very next morning? "Heather" came up and introduced herself to me as we were eating breakfast Sunday morning . . . . . . .

Being friendly is one thing Vince... and all of the people there certainly were that... but thinking I knew what I was doing *after* having danced with me??? I'm sorry, but major 'crack' users!

As far as my own WCS dancing, I do think that it came up a notch... even if not though, I was quite inspired. It's definitely something I want to get better at!

1) Yes, she is!
2) Please congratulate her for me... I'm only sorry I didn't get there earlier enough to see her competing. :(
3) Wow! And all that while dancing practically blind? I'm all the more impressed...

We're both ready to learn to Salsa . . . Jonathan . . . are you available?

Thanks Vince… yeah, it felt that way too. Which, of course, proves exactly how nice your wife Carolyn is… since she was the one subjected to my first WCS of the evening – AND was still speaking to me thereafter!

Not really too much to tell SK… unfortunately!

SD,
What ca I say . . she said you were dressed in all black with a long black ponytail . . . you stood out . . . she remembered, but yes, I think she is really young. Really nice, but young! How do I know??? Because I also meet her mother too!

She was never around to Salsa with because all the guys wanted to meet her, and they immediately grabbed her for a dance as soon as the music started. She is a great dancer though.

Robbing banks eh??? How about giving up that amateur status and start teaching to make some $$$. You certainly are qualified and you communicate well. Then you could do some events and maybe get some of them paid for down the road.

Well, I can certainly believe she was in high demand... but I'm also fairly sure that she wasn't in the room for at least a couple of the salsas that were played... believe me, I looked!

Thanks for the compliment Vince, but no way!!! There is still so much to learn and I am still so far away from being really qualified to teach. I'm guessing that in about 8-10 years I'll make that transition... but only time will tell.

Yes, you're right. I did think she was older. Hoping . . . maybe???
A few of us we're just standing out in the lobby near the restaurant, and she walked right up and started talking to us. That's when she introduced herself! She is not bashful!

Hi Pam,
How are you?

Meeting SDsalsaguy and Mark was great. They also got to meet Carolyn.

It was a fun reunion.

My dancing started to come around this weekend in SD . . . I finally got rid of some unwanted weight and I actually "felt" like dancing. So, we need to dance again????????????

When are you going to dance and compete with Robert? We're trying to talk him into going to Reno so the girls can compete there. Are you going to compete?

We need to find a female for us guys who want to compete.

Sorry . . . I was trying to "push" you, as I (for me) discovered that competing makes you learn faster and, for most, better!

You already can WCS, NC2S, and 2 Step. That's what I saw you doing. Start with those and put them on the floor. You are a good dancer. Then gradually add cha cha and waltz, so you can place - you need the minimum four dances.

I won't bug you anymore about competing. . .

dancergal
11-05-2003, 11:51 AM
Ok Vince, I'll think about it without saying "yes." How's that? I can do some really basic Cha Cha and my Waltz is more country, but none of it is competition level. I learn all these dances for the fun of dancing. I'm just not the competing kind, even if it improves my dance as you say. But I will think about it, ok? That's as far as I'll go. :)

It happen to pop up on my e-mail when you posted because I guess I have it set on notify when someone posts on this string. Anyway, to answer your question, no we did not know that we were going to the same wedding reception. We both knew the wedding couple who are dancers and we happen to see each other at the reception. Pretty cool huh? Since that time, I have seen Vince and his wife a few more times, more recently the Reno Event in March this year at Tahoe.
