I've got a few items of clothing that guys really seem to like playing with on the dance floor - no not like that - I mean full circle skirts that spin, fringed hip scarves that emphasize hip movement and so on. Guys will lead moves that make these clothes move.

So guys - here's a question for you - does what your partner wear change the way you dance with her? Is there anything you paticularly like? - (apart from very skimpy and/or likely to fall off  )

Cheers

Sarah,
Well now that eliminated my first two answers, I'll give my third!

Absolutely the Waltz! And, especially with my wife. She has some really great Waltz arms and Waltz skirt styling . . . she can literally make that skirt flow like it's liquid!

I think there must be something about skirts. A couple of my teachers have led me into noticeably more spins when I'm wearing a twirly skirt. And frankly, I like it too. I like the way the skirt feels when it's swishing (or snapping, depending on the speed of the turn :D ) around my legs. Ahh! :D

Clothes that are loose in the upper body or waist (big poofy sleeves, dangling scarves, that sort of stuff) make me nervous that I'll accidentally hook a loose part during a spin and disrobe my partner. It's also hard to see where the arms are to make contact after a free spin or the like.

Backless tops make it hard to avoid hand-sweaty skin contact in closed position. I don't particularly mind the sweat, but it can be difficult to get good contact when the skin is slick(*). Tops that are stiff and/or have lots of attached hard bits (rhinestones or whatever those decorations are) make leading a bit harder as well.

Non frou-frou dresses are great - going to swing dances and seeing all the women in pantsuits is boring. Though they are better placed to complain about all the men in slacks and printed short sleeve shirts.

There are other clothing colors than black in the world, though few WCS dancers seem aware of it.

(*) I'm minded of an ECS dance I went to one summer in North Carolina. It was not air conditioned and it was very hot and humid. At one point I led one of those arm slide moves with a follower wearing an off-the-shoulder dress. Both our arms were so wet that we skidded right off the end without making hand contact, and ended up on the floor. Fortunately no damage :-)

After nearly 25 skirt- and dress-less years, I now actually buy and wear skirts and dresses. That swing. This stuff has changed everything...even what I wear. I have vintage and vintage replica '40s-'50s dresses and flowers that I clip in my hair.

I notice it too, that when I'm wearing a skirt/dress that looks great when twirled, I get twirled more often.

Cool.

I go nuts when I dance with a girl and all she can do is hold her top or her skirt. If you know you are going dancing, why in the world would you wear tube tops or a mini skirt?

I don't particulary care what a person is wearing. All I really care is how much the person is feeling the music. The only time I change my dancing is when I get stuck with a girl wearing one of the above mentioned items. I basically have to use my slim shine repertoire all song long, with a few x-bodies...

Still thinking about that weird dance story of yours, aren't you? It still makes me laugh any time I think about it.

Yeap... Everytime I think of dance clothes, I think of it.  It's one of those moments when you are alone and bust out in laughter...

I like it when folks bring a spare shirt or two.

I generally do this and think it's a good habit. It's nice to "freshen up" mid way through the evening. I do it for my partners as well as myself.

I like skirts and those beaded/sequined shawls
