Tonight my boyfriend and I went to our usual Tuesday night dance. A bunch of lindy hoppers were there. They asked my boyfriend and I to join their dance team, the Rhythm Rousers. This is a CT based swing dance team that performs at various venues, such as the CT Jazz Fest, each year. I was so honored and flattered. I've only been dancing for a little more than a year, so it was quite a surprise. Yay for another boost in confidence. :D

So last night was the first official meeting of our swing group the Rhythm Rousers. There are probably going to be seven couples in the group. It all sounds like a lot of time and effort, but so so so exciting and fun. We have two definite gigs each year and will be distributing business cards and will have a webpage up and running soon hopefully.
They asked me to be one of the choreographers. I was so taken aback. I have only been dancing for maybe a year and a half and have never even been in a performance group before. I'm so psyched. I will be working with a lead whom I know and really enjoy dancing with. We get to make selections of songs to choreograph. This is going to be so much fun!!! :D :D :D

By the way, I forgot to add that Bruce decided not to join. But it's ok because it might be good for me to have my own dancing identity in CT (my recent new home) and make some friends that won't associate me as "the girl who dances with Bruce" lol. I said that last night at the meeting and people were practically rolling on the floor with laughter because that is so what they all used to call me because they didn't know my name. It's nice to feel accepted now.

I keep forgetting these things...before you know it this thread is going to be a mile long
Our main style of dancing and choreographed dances will be lindy hop. However, since we are trying to market ourselves we will also be including other dances to our repetiore where not all the couples will be on the floor. I think we will be doing some waltz and salsa, maybe cha-cha or tango. I'm not sure. But a couple of our members are actually instructors in various ballroom dances. So it will be fun to expand our horizons. :D

Tonight we have our meeting where I have to present my song and my ideas for choreography to the group. Each member of my team has picked a song as well. The group is going to vote on which song they want to pursue dancing to. I'm kind of nervous because #1 I'm not sure my ideas will make sense or will sound good #2 I really want to dance to this song, but it is kind of fast and I'm not sure if everyone will like it. But I love it. I picked Americano by Brian Setzer. It's a fantastic version with tons of energy and lots of little breaks in it. :D

best of luck with that Steph ... it will be fine no matter how it turns out! ;)

Personally I can't stand dancing to it, but it is fun to listen too. It just swings poorly, very poorly... unless I'm doing Single time ECS

I'm a hopeless lindy hopper!!! :( So ECS single time is what I do. :)

That is what a lot of people don't understand... songs that are poor for certain dances are great for others.
Then again often a song that is great for lindy hop is great for a lot of its descendants.

Well that's the thing. We wouldn't be lindy hopping really throught most of it. There would be a mix of ECS, Bal, and Tandem charleston.

Just returned from my meeting and they voted for my song! Yay! I'm so thrilled, and a bit more nervous? :? Now the pressure is on to come up with a full choreographed dynomite routine within a pretty short amount of time and teach it to the rest of the group. But this is going to be an exciting journey! :D

Hey SD. Here's that link I promised you.

It's still under construction. We hope to have some links hooked up to it soon. Right now it's just a start.
