View Full Version : The "Whittle" Down Thread

Ok folks ... I tried setting up a poll for the Favorite Male Salsa Dancer and the Favorite Female Salsa Dancer, both using the names acquired from the Best Salsa Dancer thread, but the poll won't let us set that many names up on a single poll.  :(
So ... we need to "whittle" down the lists.
I'm going to post the list below and I'm going to ask folks to provide their top five choices when they post to this thread here. I'll give everyone Thursday thru Sunday to leave their top five picks for both the male and female polls that I'll create sometime next Monday.
Here are the lists currently, and feel free to include other's if you desire.
Men:
Johnny Vasquez, Frankie Martinez, Ramon from Imperion Azteca, Cuban Pete, Francisco Vazquez, Luis Vazquez, Fernando from Tropical Gem, Alex Da Silva, Cristian Oviedo from Los Angeles, CA, Thomas Guerrero from Santo Rico, Juan Matos, Carlos B, Super Mario, Julian Mejia from Atlanta, Al Espinoza, Paul 'Gallito' Baarn, Mouaz (Paris)
Women:
Liz Lira, Alyra from Tropical Gem, Sandy from Tropical Gem, Melissa Fernandez from Mas Salsa Brava, Burju from New York, Sheila Sampath, Joby Vazquez Martinez, Olivia Dasso, Sascha from Los Angeles, Jemadean Haynie from San Diego, Janet Fuentes Torres (Cuba/UK) and Griselle Ponce, Candy Mena, Sévérine (Paris)

By the way, I left Matrix, Sabor, SDSalsaguy, and Me off the lists, but this doesn't mean you can't vote for us since these will be polls regarding "Favorite" Salsa Dancers.
Also, I will be including some mention of DanceMentor's ideas once the two polling threads are in place. ;)

Well, the only thre I've danced with from the women's bracket are Melissa Fernandez from Mas Salsa Brava, Joby Vazquez Martinez, and Jemadean Haynie from San Diego, so I'll nominate all three of them for the short list.

I don't think it is the policy of the Moderator Staff here to discuss A) their actions or B) their reasons for doing what they do in *public*. :)

We are happy to do so via pm with anyone who has concerns/issues.
I still have to think about these dancers. I guess I better go search for clips on them so that I can see what they are like...now what if I find a bad clip of a really good dancer... :?
Sagitta is getting a headache. Sagitta is going to take a break now...

DancePoet, you have to define the word "favorite". To watch dancing or to dance with?

Sagitta, you'll be ok. This is why I gave folks a couple of days to review and get back to us. Then I'll set up the poll sometime on Monday.

I would say the dancer could be your favorite for whatever reason you choose. :D

And for discussion on the thread we will also include the following ideas to generate some good dialogue.
"1. Socially 2. LA Style 3. NY Style 4. Rueda 5. Cuban 6. Club And all of those catgories with and without lifts and acrobatics. Also, while we are at it, feel free to express your favorite A. Competitor B. Performer C. Teacher".
But lets save the discussion for when the poll goes into effect after the weekend is over and we get some top five lists to "whittle" down. It looks like we might be able to use 10 choices on the poll. So lets everybody who can contribute who they think the top five are, and then the poll can be created.
Besides, I'm a not a die hard Salsa Dancer with much knowledge about this style of dance, so I suspect most salsaholics won't want me to pick who's on the poll. ;)
So far it ahs been a whole day an know one has picked their top five they'd like to see on the poll.

Perhaps, but we did have a number of folks over on the Best Salsa Dancer Thread discuss having such a poll. I suspect their are multiple reasons, but folks like yourself can choose not to particpate. ;)

Well, it looks like there is just not enough interest in having a poll like this, and therefore I won't set one up todayas promised. ;)

Unless one's living on an island by oneself, one has to care for what others think; but not too much, otherwise, one will be not living one's own life--dancing one's own dance. The right approach lies in the middle: one should respect one's individuality, but as a social being one should also be aware of one's neighbors. The key is finding the balance between the two.

Muchas gracias mi amigo. :) It's been a long time since I wore out any Salsa moves.... But I'm all for it. ;) Did I mention I pretty much only listen to reggaeton, salsa, bachata, merengue in my car? We got GREAT latin radio here in Orlando....
