hey .. im new to the forum.. the reason i searched it out was because im kind of new to dancing. im 19 and willing to dance iv just done VERY little of it because of the freindships iv had. but i recently found out that i was going to move it spain and i wanted to learn how to dance because i like it and because i figure my freinds there will know how to. dont get me wrong i have rythem and coordination i just know little about moves and basics.

incase there is any confusion i just basicly would like to learn to dance salsa and what not. my problem is that i do not have the time durring the day or the money to take lessons. my sister offered to help me but she is usually very busy. though she is a very good dancer. my only choices are going to clubs and what not and just learn from there, but i do not want to go alone because i dont want to look like a fool on the floor. does anyone have any suggestions?i do have a couple freinds who might be willing to go with me but im kind of embarassed as to the fact that i dont dance well ..

Do the clubs have a lesson before the dance? There will be other beginners there you can share your embarressment with . As far as going with friends or not, do which ever will tend to get you to dance more. If they'll push you to dance, and you'll listen, take them along. If they will act as a safety blanket for you so that you don't dance, then don't take them.

Bottom line: Get out there and dance. Do it. Do not pass go. Do not collect
$200. I know you're embarressed. Dance anyway.

And good luck Scoal. Welcome to DF, by the way! :D

Welcome to the Forums, Scoal!

I am so excited about your decision to learn to dance...and you will be too. At first it can be a little embarassing, until you realize there majority of the population of earth do not know how to dance or have never taken any training.

To get you started, I would recommend definately having your friends (who know how to dance) show you some moves and walk you through the basics. They can be a wonderful resource and asking friends is probably not as scary (or expensive) as signing up for lessons.

You may also want to look into some learn at home videos. I know there are quite a few for salsa, and you can probably get them at a pretty reasonable price. Try checking with your local media/video retailer in the workout or special interest section. For some additional ideas of videos, check out the links under "Workout Videos" on my site http://www.dancersdreamland.com/movie_main.htm

All the best!
