Here's the story. Went out contra dancing tonight and quickly got a blister on the back of my right foot. :( Was determined not to let that stop me, and danced in my socks 8) only to get a blister on the ball of my right foot.
Any sugestions as to the quickest way of treating these things so that I can go dancing tomorrow, the day after and the day after? Never have had blisters before, as far as I can remember, :? so....I really need the help.
Thanks

I've never ever tried it but I've seen advertisments for a pruduct called NuSkin... a sort of liquid bandage. I'm not sure if it would work but it might be a direction to head in.
I'm also a believer in letting your body fix itsself before hurting it some more! ;)
Best of luck... and WELCOME!!!

Thanks. The Nu-skin bandages definitely seem a step in the right direction :)
I'm also a believer in letting the body heal itself, usually, but sometimes I need to hurry things up. I already burst the blisters with a sterilized pin and ran my foot under hot water. I'll see how things are by morning, and maybe the Nu-skin bandages will do the trick by then..If not...we'll see.

it's generally not a good idea to pop blisters because bacteria can get in there and cause infections (especially on our dirty feet). I would say cover it with the right sized bandaid with antibiotic gel and/or nuskin and wait. :]

You are right about popping blisters. Everyone who heard my tale told me that. But I did it anyway!
Today the blisters were almost gone. I used these fancy bandaids from J&J that cushioned the blistered areas and went for group class and then dance party at a friends place. It was worth it. A very interesting party as we danced to world music. Turkish music played and we did rhumba, then a French reggae came on and we did jump swing. I did lindy to Israeli music. We did salsa and merengue to African music, but that wasn't suprising.
thanks for guiding me here...didn't see it first time around.
first question: is there a way to search for a topic without cruising every page? or sort any way besides by date?
blister update: my friend pierced it for me with the point of the blade of my (unsterilized) swiss army knife...the only thing we could find. squeezed out all the liquid. it still hurt that night, and a bit yesterday. i babied it, soaked, used lavender and foot cream and it's just fine today.
gonna get some moleskin for my dancebag for future use, and get back into the daily habit of using burt's bees foot creme before bed EVERY NIGHT so that maybe this won't happen again.

If you are going to pop a blister always use hygenic condictions!! Hot water can easily sterilize a pen knife/knife/pin. Then wash the area with hot water and keep clean!! Not worth trying to hasten the natural healing process and becoming worse off when the blister gets infected.
As for searching have you tried the Search function, which has a magnifying glass symbol. I find that works pretty well. :)

Actually, if you went to a doctor they would do pretty much the same thing you did Sagitta.
Here are the directions for dealing with blisters...
1. Find a sharp instrument, a razor blade or needle is ideal. Sterilize it. If you use hot water, make it very. If it isn't boiling, use soap also and let it stay in the hot water for a minute. Ideally you'll use rubbing alcohol, fire, or something similar.
2. Sterilize the blister and the immediate area around it. It does no good to sterilize the instrument but not the skin the instrument is going to be piercing/cutting.
3. Pierce or cut the blister near the edge. Make the smallest incision possible if using a cutting instrument, or two or three piercings if using a needle (close together).
4. Gently apply pressure at the far end of the blister pushing out the fluid. Use a wash cloth (soaked in hot water, cleaned with soap, rinsed and rung out) to clean up the fluid as it comes out. Work slowly towards the incision making sure to get out all the fluid.
5. Disinfect the area a second time.
6. Apply a bandage (nu-skin, band-aid etc.) and/or moleskin.
Moleskin w/o a bandage: Take some moleskin and cut out a piece larger than the blister, and cut out the center so it reveals the head of the blister. Repeat the process with a smaller piece of mole skin creating a couple of layers so the adhesive isn't directly on the blister.
Moleskin is incredibily important to blister prevention and healing. It keeps the skin from being rubbed in the way that blisters form. If you are prone to blisters you may want to apply moleskin to the area where blisters regualrly fomr, prior to dancing.

Yes Sue, there is...try the search tool, just next to the FAQ, in the top right corner, under the link to the Photo Album.
