If you could pick the celebs, who would you pick?
I'd pick Drew Carey. That should be interesting.... H'es got aintersting sense of comic timing....

It's hard to pick. Do you want someone that might actually be able to dance, or someone that's going to be amusing?
Because I would say they got both in O'Hurley, neither in Kelly, and one in Joey (he was amusing, only).
Or do we want someone to laugh at, like Evander?
Personally, I want William Shatner. Because, who else could top J. Pederman?
also, i wouldn't mind seeing someone above the C-list go out on a limb.
scullystwin42

Richard Gere.
Aww, but he's already been trained... Although, I'd like to see him compete Pro/Am at a real comp!

Shatner is a go, but only if you can get Leonard Nimoy, too.

I have a feeling the Shat would blow Nimoy away. Even though I love me some Spock.
Heee... I'd like to see Jennifer Garner. She's probably stiffer than Kelly

Well, this is the Desparate Housewives network. Not that any of those ladies need the publicity, but I wouldn't be surprised if one of them was wooed by network execs.
If they can get bigger stars next season it will definately keep the momentum rolling.
Laura

Oh, Shatner would be a hoot.

Jen Garner is pregnant. Not sure how the network would feel about that....

Yes, please take out the C-list celebs. I would rather see celebs who can really dance....ones I can think of right now is....Patrick Swayze, John Travolta, Fiona (something - General Hospital). Now that they know the show has good ratings, I wonder if they can't get some real stars on the show.

The only celebrity on the last series that didn't work for me was the Reality Show "star." The rest were fine, though the supermodel mainly worked because she got Bruno's tongue dragging on the floor. I had high hopes for Evander at the start and liked the fact that he gave it a good effort even when the judges weren't saying very nice things about him.
So I think the types of celebs that worked the best were:
The older guy with lots of character.
The cute and very bold woman.
The aging pop star.
The retired athlete.
What didn't work:
Synthetic celebrities

William Shatner
Denny Crane!
Let's get James Spader in there, too! I bet he'd look smashing in a latin outfit (LOL).
I think a battle of the Desparate Housewives would be great...although viewed as a total publicity stunt.
Laura

Oh man, James Spader is hot.

I believe Jennifer Garner has done ballet before so I doubt she'll be stiff... But unfortunately (because I love her), she's way too big a star for DWTS, I think. Plus, after all the contorversy, ABC would be stupid to put one of its own stars on the show again.
We're more likely to see someone of Sarah Michelle Gellar's caliber of fame. Maybe her hubby Freddie Prinze Jr can be on too - he's very cute:)
Also, I think one of the martial arts type movie stars, like Jean-Claude Van Damme or Jackie Chan would be good because they're really flexible and balanced already...
Overall, I'd like to see someone who'd be teacheable and have the potential to get good, not someone inept like Holyfield (even if he was amusing).

Personally, I want William Shatner.
Speaking of former captains of the Enterprise, I think Patrick Stewart could pass for a good ten-dancer.
oh yeah! Patrick Stewart!.... "make it so!"
speaking of enterprises, i remember there was one episode that dr. crusher was teaching data to dance - the dancing doctor  !
If you could pick the celebs, who would you pick?
I'd pick Drew Carey. That should be interesting.... H'es got aintersting sense of comic timing....
given the episodes where he gave himself to musical/theatrical numbers, he's probably got the interest & the aptitude - a few pointers on spotting would go a long way.

oh yeah! Patrick Stewart!.... "make it so!"Patrick Stewart already played a ballroom professional in some movie that was made, aired on cable, and then the bottom fell out on the flm's ownership so it was never seen again. I can't remebemer the name, and I never got to see it. My mom saw it, and I think there was a forum discussion about it a couple years ago. I wonder if this prior ballroom training could be seen as an unfair edge ;-)
speaking of enterprises, i remember there was one episode that dr. crusher was teaching data to dance - the dancing doctor  !
linda park (from the latest series) allegedly studied latin ballroom. I wouldn't mind seeing her dance.
also, the guy who played dr. mark greene on ER (& goose in top gun when he still had hair) is also supposed to be a pretty good ballroom dancer.
so aside from Fred... have any other ballroom dancers made it into celebrity-hood?

so aside from Fred... have any other ballroom dancers made it into celebrity-hood?One of the Backstreet Boys was a ballroom teacher in Florida before getting recruited to the band and making it big. I'm pretty sure it's tall, dark-haired, gotee guy (not to be confused with SDSalsaGuy).

I've seen several suggetions regarding celebrities who have dance experience. I think that part of the charm of the DWTS concept is that the "stars" have to learn it all from scratch in just a few weeks. It allows audience members to envision themselves in the competition (i.e., "If he can do that with only six weeks of intensive training, maybe I could do something similar with a few months of study.")
Also, we Americans enjoy rooting for the underdog (like Evander). If the competition included only people like Swayzee, you could lose that element.
If you started with people who had more skills to begin with, the dancing would probably be better, but I'm not sure it would be as entertaining.
WRT "C" list celebs, I assume one challenge for the producers is that better-known stars don't need the exposure as much and might therefore be less willing to compete.
I agree, however, with the comment regarding "synthetic celebrities," like people who are only known for their appearances on reality TV.

While I think Conan O'Brien would be a hoot, he's over 6 feet tall and I think closer to 6'5"! Who could they pair him up with?
Jennifer Garner has tons of martial arts training, I don't think she'd be stiff at all. Did you see her in 13 going on 30? (I have nieces O.K.?)
My dream list:
Mark Ruffalo mmm-hmm! (So I liked 13 going on 30 a little  )
Colin Firth
LL Cool Jay (yummmmmmy!)
Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas
Jude Law, but only in latin pants and open shirt
Kathy Griffin/Griffith? Cute redhead, a total riot!
Michael Buble' (he could sing and dance on the show)
Martha Stewart (seriously)
Todd English (a chef and a feast for the eyes)
Faith Hill (although she is very tall, finding a partner will be tough)
Sean McCormack from Will and Grace
Meagan Mullaly from Will and Grace
Ving Ranes (yum!)
Jimmy Smits (yum!)
Loni Anderson (in the audience at the dance off)
People from the tv show Gray's Anatomy
People from the show Lost
Of course, John Travolta, Denny Terio could make an appearance, Patrick Swayze, Cameron Diaz and the like.
This thread is fun!

On the otherhand, what if they brought out all the now more famous actors that have once been on GH? John Stamos, Ricky Martin, Demi Moore, Finola Hughes (a b/d dancer btw), who else?

Im not sure on the celebs, but I DO have a few picks on the pros I's like to see next year....;)
After seeing that high energy, non stop jive routine it would be a crime not to have Louis van Amstel and Ashly DelGrosso back on the show
Jonathan Roberts and Anna Trebunskaya - still catching my breath after that foxtrot.
Charlotte Jorgensen - as an instructor, second to none. Brings out the best in people and I wouldn't be surprised if she and any new partner she gets are the odds on favourites once again.
Nick Kosovich - That routine he did with Charlotte had me wondering if they were dancing on silk the whole time. Mr. Smooth personified
Edyta Sliwinska - Give her a good partner this time around and let's see what she can really do. :)
Michael Wentink- a long shot, but a girl can dream, can't she? ;)
Got to show some Canadian ballroom love...how about Anik Jolicoeur and Alain Doucet, All round talents and former Ten Dance World
Champions?
Those are my picks- how 'bout yours? ;)
EyesOfire49
If I could pick a dream celebrity, it might be Hugh Jackman...waltzing with Wolverine, be still my heart... :D
