International Style Amateur Classes

I've seen in partner ads and in other websites that provide comp results, classes within the amateurs... i.e. "A", "B", "C" and "S" Classes... can you guys shed some light on the understanding of this? Is it like Novice, Pre-Champ, and Champ that we have here in the States? Just curious...

Pretty much. I don't know what letters correspond to what levels, though.

Not sure about other countries but here in Australia it used to be A through to E. A being open dancers - E being beginner level. A few years ago this changed and now we go from level 5 down to 1. 1 being beginner and 5 being open. Level 1 dancers usually only dance 1 dance per style, level 2 2 dancers and so on up to level 5 which do all 5 except for the Masters 2 - over 55 years who normally only do 4 dances. Gayle

In Europe (Germany and to the East), S is 'sonderclasse' which is equivalent (more or less) to Open; A = Pre-champ/Novice; B = Novice/Gold; C = Silver; D = Bronze; E (in many countries there is no longer an E class though) is a beginner level.
