Larinda, fair enough. I got my MacBook Pro because I needed it for my current class for developing iPhone apps. My other 3 computers (2 being laptops) are a Dell, HP, and Gateway. They are all good computers!

My data is seriously scattered as a result--befitting the wonderful disorder that is my life right now!

Funny, same here. I sometimes have both laptops (Macbook Pro and Viao) side by side and am working on projects that are spread across both of them! Such is my life also, a beautiful mess!

Me too, I typically work on a MacBook Pro and a Windows-based laptop or desktop machine next to each other all the time these days...

Well, if I need Windows I start up a virtual system (Vmware Fusion) on my Mac and run Windows (XP, Vista, 7) in a separate window. Runs pretty well. If need to trade data, just drag and drop between windows. Used to have separate PC system. No more. Slightly less of a beautiful mess.

Pruthe, thanks for reminding me about that! Someone who just got a new MacBook Pro mentioned that capability!

Cheers!

I have Parallels to run Windows on the Mac but it slows the Mac to crawl and often crashes... plus the programs I run in Parallels don't render properly so I can't truly see what I am editing.

Something doesn't sound right with your system. I'm running Vmware (similar to Parallels) on Mac Pro with both Windows XP and Vista, and Windows 7 on MacBook Pro. All Windows systems seem to run pretty snappy without major impact on Mac side. Never had a crash using Vmware and have been using for over a year now. I'm running Quickbooks on Vista and web tools on XP, in addition to others. Maybe could have genius person at Apple store look at and see if can find a problem. Good luck!

Default CD stuck in MacBook -- A Cautionary Tale

Here is another vote for Macs. I have used nothing but Macs both at work and personal since about 1987 (SE model). Have very rarely had a problem of any kind. Have never had a virus or any other kind of attack.

I recently purchased a cheap music CD from a local dance band. It played for a while in my MacBook Pro but then quit playing. When I tried to eject it, something jammed and the drive made weird noises until it would draw the CD back into the drive and eventually come to a rest. Tried multiple ways of ejecting and nothing worked.

I finally decided it was a mechanical problem -- something was physically blocking the CD or causing it to be misaligned with the slot on the way out. Google led me to an obscure note indicating that a CD may warp due to heat buildup in the drive unit. Tried guiding the CD out of the slot with a playing card and a credit card as suggested, but no luck.

Happened to spot another suggestion from someone with a similar problem. Sometimes a CD will warp during its first use and will never flatten sufficiently to allow it to be ejected. My solution was to shut down and put the whole computer into the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. Took it out and immediately started up and ejected the CD successfully.

Yes the CD has a permanent warp (concave on the label side), which I attribute to the paper label and/or adhesive -- possibly reacting to the heat in the drive.

The CD will work in my external optical drive (tray-loading), but I'll never put a CD with a paper label into a slot-loading drive again.

old dog, thank you for your informative and interesting post...

Going back to an original thought in this thread, it's amazing how a thread like this can have a whole wonderful life of it's own! ("Is that CD still stuck in the MacBook?" *lol*)

I love that about Dance Forums!
