A Quick Report
This was the 2nd WDC after 2003, which was held in Innsbruck, and in contrast to 2003, the competition was much closer this time. Not only did all the big names (exept Slavik) dance, also all Top50 couples, who were allowed by the 2 per nation rule showed up. Therefore it was a tough battle to make the cut into the 24 quarterfinal and an even closer fight for the semi final, which was the last round for Vescovo, Katsevman, Malki, Timokhin, Ryupin and Duknauskas, who was (for me) the only "no-name" in this group and who was so delighted to reach the semi.
The final was the expected battle of the Top-6 couples and the marks were really split amongst all of them. Michael and Joanna came out as winner of the crown, but had do take 5.th places from Salberg and the Danish judge in most of the dances. They managed to get the majorities of 1st in Cha ( 8 ), Samba (7) and Rumba (6), they lost the jive to Riccardo/Yulia and the outcome of the Paso is still not known to me. Riccardo/Yulia took all the corresponding 2nd/1st places and were clear runners up.
3rd and 4th was battled out between Franco Formica and Sergey Sourkov, who really started to push from the semi to the finale. It must have been very close between these 2 as well. Peter/Kristina and Andrej/Elena had worse than expected marks in ChaCha and they suffered the curse of the open marking. They were obviously disappointed and it showed in their dancing as well.
The competition is broadcastet by the ORF starting 12/7, so youtube-videos should be available in a week or so.
