The 2005 DF Silent Auction
Welcome to The 2005 DF Silent Auction!!!
So, the actual auction isn't until November, but we wanted to start soliciting donation items earlier this year to give people a head start on securing items to contribute. For those of you who weren't with us yet or who missed the 2004 Silent Auction, here's the deal...
As great as the DF's continued growth and activity are, this also means that we are dealing with ever greater site traffic as well. Without a doubt this is GREAT! But this also means that our hosting expenses have continued to go up as well. As such, the DF occasionally dose some fundraising by various means such as donations and our silent auction.
Proceeds from the DF Silent Auction go to upgrading our server, paying our higher monthly charges, and for software upgrades and outside programming help as these are needed.
Now here's how the auction works: from now until November you can post what items you'd be willing to donate to the auction. Note that donated auction items do NOT have to be dance related!!! At the end of October we'll post a complete list of all the items available for bidding and, throughout November, DF members can anonymously bid on the items of their choice (with the highest current bid being updated regularly). Again, bidding will only take place in November (holiday shopping anyone? hint, hint!) and the highest bid received for each item by 111:59pm, PST on Nov. 30 wins!
...and don't forget that the winner of the "Guess the 200,000 Post" Contest! wins a $10 credit for The 2005 DF Silent Auction!
*********************************
NOTE: The 2005 Silent Auction is now active!!! Check outall the great items available and help support the DF: http://www.dance-forums.com/showthread.php?t=10478

I think the most frequently asked question last year (at least this early in the process) was about what kinds of things people could/should donate.
My bottom line? Anything you'd value enough to buy is probably a good candidate. It'd be easier on the donor if the items are lightweight and easy to ship. Other than that, you're limited only by your imagination, IMO.

I have two celebrity photographs, both signed, I'm willing to donate.
The first is an 8 by 10 of Cindy Crawford, done in sepia tones.
The second is a 5 by 7 of color photo of David Duchovny from The X-Files, with an 8 by 10 pink mat.

There's about 400 more posts to go before we hit the cut off in the "Guess the 200,000 Post" Contest!, the winner of which gets a $10 credit for The 2005 DF Silent Auction!
