    There was a thread started on this topic, but it wasn't complete. It would be great to hear about other popular Salsa dancing areas/cities not mentioned like puerto rico, france, spain, south america, mexico, montreal, japan, hong kong, korea and other countries/cities. Also, peeps from Austin, LA and other U.S. cities/areas, please chime in.

    Link to old thread and places mentioned: Washington, D.C., Melbourne, Atlanta, NYC, Ireland, Portugal, Colorado, Jamaica, Chicago, Philly, Vancouver, San Antonio, Brighton(MA), Albuquerque, Sweden, Winnipeg(Canada)

    Also, Boriken or anyone else in NYC, could we please get an update for your area. I'll be visiting sometime soon in the Spring and would like to know where the hot spots are this year. Thanks everyone!

    Here's what's hot in the SF scene:

    Sun -- Allegro Ballroom - my favorite spot of the week. It's a beautiful ballroom located in Emeryville. So if you're visiting and not driving, you have to Bart/Shuttle it or something. (Lessons Beg. 6pm main room, then smaller studio 7-7:30?. Int lessons 7:30?-8:30 I don't take the classes so check out their website if interested.) Dancing around 8:30. Early crowd mixed Beg to Adv. More advanced dancers trot in around 10:30-11:00. Best mix of advanced dancers from the Bay Area and South Bay of the week.

    Mon -- Cafe Cocomo - Mostly Beg to Int. (Lessons 7-9pm) Never been yet. Heard it's kinda quiet, but okay if you really wanna dance on Monday. (least popular night for Salseros in Bay Area.)

    Tue -- Glaz Kat - one of the most popular nights and clubs of the week for Salseros. Hot place for Salseros in the City and some from east & south bay. Good number of troupe and advanced dancers frequent the place. (Lessons Beg. 7:45-8:30 Int. 8:30-9:15.)

    Wed -- Down Low Lounge (East BAy/Berkeley) - the dancing here I heard can vary from week to week, sometimes quiet and sometimes packed. (Lessons 8-9pm) I've only been here once, so others can fill in the gaps. I liked it. 70's era basement night club. It's kinda cool. Mixed crowd, Beg to Inter. College since it's by Berkeley U. Handful of advanced dancers.

    Thur -- Cafe Cocomo & Harry Denton's Starlight - Cocomo used to be the happening spot, but due to politics, it kind of died down a bit. But, many Salseros still frequent the place. Mostly intermediate dancers and a handful of advanced dancers visiting each week. Starlight, small club & floor, but some Salseros started to frequent it.

    Friday -- Jillian's, Roccapulco, Glaz Kat - not great nights for Salseros at nights clubs. Alot of partiers, drinkers, Reggaeton mixed in. Salsa Socials in South Bay and East Bay - Dance Spectrum (Hot Salsa Fridays) and Alameda Dance (Picante Salsa Night) some like. This night of the week - Salseros are widely dispersed.

    Saturday -- Roccapulco, Cocomo(SF), Maiko's(Berkeley), Montero's(East Bay) and some south bay scenes. Monthly social at Metronome. Salseros dispersed like Friday nights.

    Ok, well I live in vienna, austria.. and dance LA, the good places I go here are:

    Floridita http://www.floridita.at -
    * Monday - Always a live band (not *always* salsa, but mostly)
    * Tuesday - Beginners salsa, merengue and bachata. Not so great for me
    * Wednesday - *the* LA/NY style night. lot's of good dancers, and good music for dancing LA/NY.
    * Thursday - don't often go on thursday... average night
    * Friday & saturday - no room for dancing... good for socialising though, many non dancers.
    * Sunday - Rueda!

    Havana - http://www.clubhavana.at
    Not too sure what goes on on each day here. Normally busy when floridita isn't busy, so I hop between the two... when floridita is quiet I go here. Thursday is often quite good, but there's only a few LA style dancers.

    El Dorado - http://www.club-eldorado.at/
    Don't often go here... although on sundays, when floridita has 'other events' the rueda contingent move here I think.

    Bierbach - http://www.salsaandmore.at/
    Fridays at bierbach are quiet, but some of the best LA dancers I know are here since you have space. A nice place, with a nice atmosphere.

    There's also an LA 'afternoon' once a month in bierbach, organised by one of vienna's few LA teachers... This is superb (feel free to email me or ask me if you're interested)

    That's about all I know... I think theres a few more places, but these are enough to keep me going :)

    http://www.salsaaustria.com/ - not often updated, but lots of cool pictures and info on events

    erm... think that's it... might edit if I think of more :)

    Salsa clubs are too numerous in Japan to list on one page. In my "area" would be Tropicana in Himeji and El Barco in Hiroshima.

    Clubs in Orlando, FL

    :idea: Most of this I got from borntosalsa.com from a discussion on their forums, but I have edited and added some things....

    * Wednesdays:
    ==========
    Roxy's: 3 rooms. Front room has old school salsa. Back room has salsa, merengue and bachata. Upstairs has reggaeton (reguetón or however you spell it). I like this spot, but it has its ups and downs...from "I'm in salsa heaven" to "I should have stayed home and clipped my toe nails"

    Club Paris: They had a Latin night on Tuesday, which I went to, but I heard that they switched to Wednesday. A VERY nice looking club with good service, but the floor leaves alot to be desired.

    * Thursdays:
    =========
    Glo: I LOVE THIS PLACE! Nice inside, nice floor, nice salsa, nice priced drinks, nice ladies Wink, free parking. (NOTE: This is promoted by my salsa school, Salsa Heat Dance Studios, so it is the best 'dancer' place to go, in my opinion)

    JJ Whisper's: It's a nice hangout, and I generally have a good time when I go there. They play pretty much everything there (but mostly the 4 main Latin genres). The floor, like Club Paris, leaves alot to be desired but is dance-able.

    Latin Quarter: This club is located at Universal CityWalk and it can get packed. The floor is terrible, unless you make a space for yourself next to the tables. Not so much of a dancer place.

    Club Copa: Don't know much about it. More info here: http://www.salsapower.com/cities/fl/orlando.htm

    Metropolis: A nice club. They just started a new Thursday night thing, so I haven't gone on Thursdays. It is promoted by a local radio station. If you have the choice, GLO is better and located VERY close to Metropolis.

    * Fridays:
    ========
    Urban Beat: Just starting out. The only thing that hurts it is the slippery floor, and I think that issue will be addressed soon. NOTE: I believe this one is closed now.

    Coco Bongos: This place gets packed so not so great for dancers, but it is nice and they mix the music up alot.

    Roxy's (First Friday of the Month Only): This is usually off the chain!

    Latin Quarter: (See above.)

    Club Copa: Don't know much about it. More info here: http://www.salsapower.com/cities/fl/orlando.htm

    * Saturdays:
    ==========
    Samba Room: Live band. Lots-a-fun. Hot as hell.

    Coco Bongos: (Same as Friday night... see above)

    Club Lava: Sometimes it has a very 'young' crowd since it is across for the University of Central Florida, but the last few times have been good. They mix alot of South American music (cumbia, tropical, etc.) with the regular salsa, merengue, bachata, reggaeton, etc.
    Salsa Heat Social (4th Saturday of every month): This is usually off the chain!

    Latin Quarter: (See Above.)

    Club Copa: Don't know much about it. More info here: http://www.salsapower.com/cities/fl/orlando.htm

    Sundays:
    ========
    Metropolis: A nice club, and they have Matrix right next to it for all the Latin House/Reggaeton so the dancers are in Metropolis.

    Addresses:
    --------------------
    * Roxy: Just go to their site: http://www.roxyorlando.com
    * Club Paris: 122 W Church St, Orlando, FL 32801 407-849-0808

    * Glo: 8967 International Dr, Orlando, FL 407-351-0361
    * JJ Whisper's: Site-> http://www.jjwhispers.com/
    * Urban Beat: Nightclub 888 North Orange Ave, Orlando, FL
    * Samba Room: 7468 W. Sand Lake Road, Orlando, FL

    for Austin, Tejas:

    The two important clubs, Copa and Mambo Kings, post their schedules on the "austinsalsa" newsgroup at groups.yahoo.com every week. This newsgroup is the glue that holds our little salsa community together ater the loss of our big club, Miguel's La Bodega, last summer. Check there for the latest info.

    Mainly our salsa scene follows one particular Latin band called the Brew as they do their weekly gigs. There are several equally-good bands but they don't get a big regular following.

    Wednesday: the Brew plays at Speakeasy. Small concrete dance floor, can get crowded, but several of the top dancers and instructors come here to strut their stuff.

    Thursday: the Brew plays at Copa. Another concrete dance floor, a little more room than Speakeasy, a mix of drinkers, dance students, and experienced dancers. Mambo Kings, which has a younger, more uban Latin hip-hop type crowd, has mostly reggaeton, but some salsa and merengue too. Mambo Kings does have a wood dance floor. Another club called Bonggo's is reported to have free salsa lessons from 9:00 to 10:00 and play some salsa, but last time I went there it was mainly reggaeton and merengue. I'll have to go back and check them out again.

    Friday: 2nd floor at Copa, a small but very nice wood floor, lounge-y interior. NY style salsa with a DJ all night. Lately they've been getting a good crowd. Lately I've enjoyed the free On2 lessons there at 9:00pm. Mambo Kings has a DJ or a live band, depends on the week. This is one of the few places that has bands other than the Brew.

    Saturday: 2nd floor at Copa. I've heard the crowd can be sparse on Saturdays. DJ music again. Mambo Kings frequently has a live band that plays mainly salsa on this night. I have to start going there more often. Once a month, a big local dance studio, Go Dance ( www.godance.cc ) has a salsa social that draws a pretty good crowd. Obviously they have a great dance floor and plenty of room.

    Sunday: a country-western club, Dallas Night Club, has the Brew from 9:00 on. This is actually the best dance floor for salsa in town. BIG suspended wood dance floor, kept in great condition, PLENTY of room for everyone. The Brew has been playing here on Sunday nights over the witner and spring. By April they will be going to a restaurant/outdoor club called The Oasis, and will stay there all summer and early fall. They play outdoors, and you can dance on a big wooden deck, not really meant for dancing. They draw a huge crowd, the non-dancers overwhelm the dancers, it gets very crowded. But since it's crowded, obviously a lot of people like it. A big question is whether Dallas Night Club will try to continue the Sunday salsa when the Brew leaves.

    Tropicana is generally swingin' from Friday night. They are open till the wee hours. DJ music, smallish place, but fun. Seasonal parties(Halloween, Valentine's, etc) are held, 1000yen admission($10), drinks from $5.
    Phone (0792)22-5837 http://latinbartropicana.com

    El Barco has 2 floors of dance clubs. Hip-hop, rock & soul below(draws a huge crowd of military guys from the base in nearby Iwakuni) and the latin bar, "Barco Tropical" upstairs. Lots of latinos hang out here and the bar draws salsa afficionados living in Hiroshima as well. Gets pretty crowded on weekends. Admission is 1000yen and includes one drink. (You can hop from upstairs bar to downstairs for the same admission!) Drink prices start at $5. El Barco (082) 246-5800. Earco Tropical (082) 246-5809.
