    Hi all,

As the title suggests, my partner (dance and life) and I are getting married next year and would love to perform a waltz as our first dance, as its our favourite (and quite frankly the one we're best at haha). We've been together 6 years, dancing together for about half that as intermediate couple.

The trouble is, we cant seem to find any waltzes we like that aren't played to death at competitions or are really depressing/old. We hate things like Moon River, Once Twice a lady etc. Thinking more along demo style songs.

Any one got any ideas of modern (chart?) songs remastered into waltzes?

Any help or ideas will be most appreciated!

When Love Finds You by Vince Gill is a very nice, romantic, slow waltz.

Some more recent music has been remixed by DJ Ice, in a "Very Ballroom" album series. It's for sale on Dance Shopper with samples for preview to see if you like any of them.

A Thousand Years by Christina Perry, if you're up for a Viennese.

There are a bunch of modern Viennese Waltz songs out there.

    1. Iris - Goo Goo Dolls
    2. I won't give up - Jason Mraz
    3. You and me - Life House
    4. Never tear us apart - INXS
    5. Come Away with me - Nora Jones

    And others...

Secret Garden has some lovely instrumental waltzes that are modern/recent.

    Trois petites notes de musique.
Old, depressing and played in competitions. Yet it has its merits.

Come Away With Me? (Norah Jones)...I hope it doesn't fall into your definition of old or depressing. Jonathan Roberts (who's a former US champion) did his wedding dance to that song.

Sandy's Song by Dolly Parton. Just ignore the other suggestions. Mine is the best. :)

    It's Greensleeves, with Country adds.

I knew the song sounded familiar, but was having trouble figuring out the title of the popular song
    (Greensleeves changed to green grass...).

Well, Sandy's version is also very danceable...

    Greensleeves, Sandy Stewart, 1962

    As well as other versions...

    Greensleeves, Celtic Ladies, 20xx

Greensleeves, Olivia Newton John, 19xx (VW)

    Greensleeves, Instrumental (changes tempo)

    Greensleeves, Amy Nuttall, 20xx (VW)

And Dolly, and way better lyrics, so as I said, the best.

The worst. Repeat after me. Or do you want to hazard yourself into a lost detailed discussion?

Anyone that questions the greatness of the one and only Dolly Parton is obviously already lost.

I am a huge waltz fan myself and also much prefer popular, recent music. Some of these are Viennese rather than slow waltzes, but I did make an effort to make sure the lyrics are at least somewhat appropriate for a wedding song in putting this list together for you. I put the more folksy / country stuff towards the bottom.

    Lightweight - Demi Lovato
Your Guardian Angel - Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
    1 + 1 - Beyoncé
    The Only Exception - Paramore
We're Not Gonna Fall - Daughtry
    Nothing Else Matters - Metallica
Bed of Roses - Bon Jovi
Never Seen Anything (Quite Like You) - The Script
Swing Life Away - Rise Against
I am Your Man - Seal
We Are Man and Wife - Michelle Featherstone
You're My Number One - Enrique Iglesias
Take My Breath Away - Elliott Yamin
I Choose You - Amanda Jenssen
It is You (I Have Loved) - Becky Jane Taylor (from the movie Shrek)
    Tenerife Sea - Ed Sheeran
Falling in Love at a Coffee Shop - Landon Pigg
Humble and Kind - Tim McGraw
All We Are - Matt Nathanson
    Trouble - Ray LaMontagne
I Was Made for Loving You - Tori Kelly
