Thanks, I'm really happy! Okay, so this is silly, but they give out these really pretty orchid leis to all the finalists. So when we started the semi-final I thought to myself "I really want a lei!!" And then when we got called back, I was like "yay, I'm going to get a lei!"

I guess it takes flowers to motivate me :)

Laura!!! You beat Giacomo Agrello and his student??? He's a freaking good teacher (and dancer). Wowwww. I'm so happy for you.
Agrello is in Washington State now? Wasn't he in Baltimore?
    Ah well. And congratulations, Porfirio.

Yes. :) It's really fun and he's been really awesome to work with since I came back to dancing.

Yes, it was their first, and I was so pleased to be there to see it. They will be dancing in the Open Professional Smooth later tonight (and of course I'll come back here with the results).

He used to be in Baltimore, but at some point a while ago he moved to Washington State because he is dancing Professional Standard with Alexandria Hawkins.

I just went and watched the sun set, and had the most delicious frozen tropical drink ever. They call it the Kahua Colada, and it's a pina colada with macademia nut liquer added to it. The combination of the macademia nut and the coconut and pineapple is astoundingly yummy. If you are ever in Hawai'i, get one!!!!

    Showcase of Top Solo Routines
Douglas Kessler & Yulia Charipova - Rumba - HI
Yasuma Kando & Roxie Cassidy - Quickstep - HI
Kris Keck & The Cowboys - Novelty - AZ (This was great, Kris dances in a wheelchair, and she had four hot guys dressed as cowboys dancing with her to "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy)
Go Hashimoto & Haruko Torri - Tango - Japan (Haruko just celebrated her NINETY-SIXTH birthday!)
Lucas Jaime & Ellen Ostler, featuring Yanna Samkova - Hustle - HI (A very cute number done to "Groove is in the Heart," with cool lifts, humor, and good dancing. My favorite of the night.)

    Open Professional Smooth
    1. Youriy Pavlov & Anna Shabazyan - CA (1-1-1-1)
    2. Porfirio Landeros & Laetitia Santore - CA (2-2-2-3)

    4. Pierre-Yves & Susan Tinel - CA (4-4-4-4)

Good job Porfirio & Laetitia -- no Rule 11 this time :)

Max & Yulia's show was really something to see. Max explained that since they'd never been to Hawai'i before, the organizers asked them to just dance their five competitive routines without changing costumes, etc, just to show the power and quality of their dancing. It was nice to see this, the last time I saw them was at Worlds at Embassy, and there was so much going on I couldn't really take in what they were doing. I love their speed and sharpness, and Yulia has the balance and grace of a cat. Heck, of a whole pack of cats. Maybe she is a cat.

Well, that's it for me. I'm heading home. I'm exhausted (that three-hour time difference will do it...I don't know how anyone from the East Coast manages).
