I'm thinking of moving out of NYC and Las Vegas is one of the options. I was wondering if anyone new anything about dance studios in Vegas. Also, do people know who currently teaches Country Western Dance in Vegas?

Actually, I have additional Vegas question.

I will be there this week, and I am wondering if there is any fun place to go dancing?

Country dancing @ Gilley's at the Frontier Saloon. It was okay, not a lot of other options...

There is a swing dance club in Vegas. I will try to find the link.

sunshineboy78 New Member has some links under directory for places to dance. But I fear their instructor/studio data base is limited, because you have to register to be listed

My wife and I attend a UCWDC competition there every December - it's purported to be the "last chance to qualify for World's."

It's a rather small competition, but a very fun one, especially it being in LV. I do not know where all the dancing is at, but I bet if you pull up the ucwdc website, and look up that event event under 'schedule,' you'll find the Pros that are holding that event. Get ahold of them, they should be albe to tell you "who" is in the area, and "where" all the dancing is . . .

Let me know if you don't have any luck getting the info you need . . . I'll be glad t help.

PS. I think that is a good move on your part!

Randy and Rhonda Shotts, who run that event, don't actually live in Las Vegas. I believe the live in Seattle. Were you there last December? I was there, one of my students competed pro-am newcomer.

I just read Lynn Martinez and Jayme Strough . . .

Randy and Rhonda . . . I thought they were from Portland, but it just may be that that is one of the events that they put on.

We haven't made Seattle yet . . . but my wife is adding more events this year . . . it could be one that she adds, as the West Coast stuff is easy to get to!

You're right, I just noticed that. I think Randy and Rhonda booked the workshop teachers last year, or something.

    So, why the big move???

That's a drastic switch of cultures! But at least you'll be able to make some of the really good CA venues/comps, etc.

It's an inexpensive, short flight from there . . .

It's just an idea. I really can't afford to buy in NYC and probably never will. Also, my partner doesn't like the winters here, he's originally from the desert. Vegas is an option because it is inexpensive, but the fastest growing city in the country right now, and there are things to do there.

Each time we go there, we see things "go up more."

Real estate and houses have skyrocketed . . . as many Floridians are moving there - not wanting to rebuild in the wake of all the storms! Many have just had enough, and this has pushed the cost of an average home up an extra $100,000 plus.

Other Floridians are moving to Arizona, where just a year ago, houses were being given away - now the prices have gone through the roof!

One thing about Las Vegas though . . . is that it is growing very large, very quickly! Whatever you and your partner do, I'm sure you'll make a good buck or two!

The Monte Carlo Casino has the cool brewpub-cum-dance spot with live music(when I was there anyhow). The beer is excellent too! You will enjoy fabulous food & drink as there are many, many world class restaurants! Have fun!

Yea, ditto Gilleys . . . the Hard Rock . . . and lots of dancing in most of the casino's where a band is playing, especially the bands that play more of the swing or good danceable music . . .

My wife and I danced in the middle of the afternoon in the Rivera.

    Ask a cab driver . . . they know everything . . . HONEST!
