Yeah, especially what she said on the tenth page:

That's coming from a girl who married her dance partner!

I actually don't see much of what she talks about in the Salsa scene. The girls seem to be really just into the dancing and the guys have to be really good before women chase them for their dance ability. That's maybe ten guys out of about a million salseros. That must be because there is so much parity in the number of men and women who dance salsa.

On the other hand, I've seen those players in other dances, especially country/western. Guys who don't have the looks, the bucks, nor the rap to get a second look from a girl take a few dance classes and by the time they can keep a beat they're too busy getting laid to be bothered with learning any new dance skills. They keep coming back to the same club and there are always new girls to take home. They don't even have to bother getting dressed. They show up in an old faded t-shirt and threadbare jeans, yet the women line up for them. Salsa is nothing like that.

Kandy, welcome to DF. I'll have to take another photo to use as my avatar so that I can pucker my lips for you too. :kissme:

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. I just started getting back into the salsa scene. I thoroughly enjoy it. I will dance with anyone who asks. I'll go for 2nds and 3rd if they are really good! I was only kidding about the sweat's hard not to get sweaty on the dance floor. I normally just go to the bathroom and wipe up...drink lots of ice water, and rest in between to lower body temp. However, if it's BO, that's something that I can't matter how hard I try. I have to breathe when I dance you know?

btw: I would love to go to Miami--heard that's the best place to salsa.

I wasn't really saying anything. I never heard of Zoolander before, so I had to Google it. While I was there, I saw a quote that seemed to funny juxtaposed with your comment.

By the way, I just noticed that you're from Seattle, WA. Isn't it cold enough up there that you can just step outside to cool off when you get hot dancing?

Yes, I see a lot of people go outside to cool off. But there are fans nearby too. I just don't like to stand near the fan when I'm sweaty...cold sweats are not fun. I have been thinking of going to Miami, but with all the hurricanes and what not, I chose Vegas for Labor Day.

If you're going to come to Miami, you might as well do it during a dance convention. The Miami Mambo Project is in June, before the hurricane season really starts. There is a mostly Casino style convention in November, after the season. There is also International Hustle and Salsa Championship in April, way before the season. Although it's mostly a Hustle convention, it's still pretty good for Salsa. The Miami Salsa Congress is probably the biggest local Salsa convention, but it's in the heart of hurricane season.

I've never been to a dance convention before. I've seen it on TV but never live. It looks very serious. If I go, it would be for the music, dance, food, and of course the beach. I heard there's a lot of good looking people in Miami, is this true? :D

    What about Puerto Rico?

    Hello, Kandy!

There's great Salsa dancing and beaches in Puerto Rico! You are just missing the Puerto Rico Salsa Congress this week of July 24 - 30. You could have come here! The hotel and parties are packed.
And there are good looking people here, too!

The Congress is not serious. There are serious dancers, but having fun. In general every day there are 4-5 hrs of seminars, couple of hours shows/exhibitions, Dance Competitions, social dancing with two live bands 9pm to 3am...

Since this is PR, the bands are El Gran Combo, Willie Rosario, Bobby Valentin, Roberto Rohena, Andy Montanez, Sonora Poncena, Jose Alberto El Canario... hard to top this unless you had Fania All Stars, Ruben Blades and Marc Anthony.

Wow, never thought about PR but that sounds fun too. I have the hardest time finding a travel companion. When you have your days off, they don't. As for the " ...or ..." part ..umm, use your imagination. :D
