The USISTD website lists the tempo for international rumba as 27-28 measures per minute (108 to 112 beats per minute). USISTD[DOT]org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=39&Itemid=51 But I feel like that's a little fast, and looking at competition videos (both regional amateur competitions and pro competitions), I see that nobody plays rumba that fast. Blackpool 2011, for example, is about 97 beats per minute - just over 24 measures per minute. Youtube /watch?v=LAZGlyQYr3A Is that an error on the website? Are competitions just not very strict on the tempo, so it could be faster or slower and they wouldn't care? Or is Rumba moving toward a slower tempo, while the ISTD, like a dictionary, is behind the curve on where the world really is?
