    Hi Everyone:

I've always enjoyed watching Tango and listening to Tango music. I've finally decided to take the giant step of signing up for lessons. I really don't know what I'm doing and I would like help in finding a school. Can someone recommend schools in the Orange County area that I can check out. Thanks for taking the time to read my post and I look forward to your responses

Welcome to DF, HB! Love your name - I'm a big Vonnegut fan, too.

There are no Studios that are strictly Tango that I'm aware of. I think Avant Garde in Newport Beach near the airport might be your best bet. Some AT teachers from Argentina come up periodically to teach for a few months, plus there are local teachers of AT (Argentine Tango.)
Also, maybe Club One in Costa Mesa?
    Good luck and have fun!

You're the second person to recommend avant garde. do you know anything else about the other dance styles that they teach.

What's the closest city to your proximity? Trying to find the good Argentine Tango teachers. You are wanting to learn Argentine Tango, and NOT ballroom tango right? Those are two very different things.

To start you off, here's a list of the LA area Argentine Tango Instructors. There's one in Newport Beach.

If you're serious about learning AT, go with a teacher that specializes in this dance.

FYI, (and this is just my own experience) when I first started, I wasted so much time and money trying to learn from a very, very well known dance studio chain.

Orange County is weird. There is no big city. The closest is Los Angeles but I am not driving that distance. The cities close to me are Irvine, Tustin, Orange, Costa Mesa, and Newport.

There is one in Downey, I know its not in OC but it may be one you are looking for.
Currently and for next few Fridays, Mirriam Larici is teaching the before Milonga class.
She also have a Tuesday class at nearby City of Bellflower. Ms. Larici was the original star of Forever Tango and the organizer of the US Argentine Tango Festival. This year's Festival will be at Whittier City around 1st week of November. These Cities are about 10-20 miles from Orange or Irvine, not too far for a tango release I live in Chino Hills myself.

There are many, many very good independent teachers at Avant Garde. Every kind of partner dance is available, from specialists. International and American styles of all the ballroom and latin dances, West Coast Swing, Salsa, you name it.
