Not sure if this has been done before, but when you started salsa, what timing method did the teacher use? Quick, quick, slow or variations on the 1, 2, 3, pause, 5, 6, 7, pause with the emphasis depending on whether you are dancing On1 or On2

    (Some teachers just use 1, 2, 3, 4)

I created a sister thread in the General Dance Forum as I wanted to open this up to non salsa dancers

My teachers used 123 567... they also explained the quick quick slow of the step... but mainly it was counting...

I use the same method... sometimes I amphasize the qqs to make some understand the movement...

All the teachers I've learned from so far use 123, 567.

(In my first Beginners Spanish class last week we counted from 1 to 10. I sailed through from 1-8 then realised I had no idea what 9 and 10 were  )

But if you have to step on more then the basic steps can be

    12345678

    or

    12345&6&7

Where & is counted as “and”.
