Thats a sweet reason. I started doing it because my friend said I'd be good at it... always nice to do something you're good at. He was always good at motivating me, when in reality he wanted some company at classes I think - I went a few times and was hooked at how easy it was to meet new people (especially girls  , but not in a 'sleazy player' way) as opposed to 'going out clubbing' where nobody really talks outside their group unless 'chatting someone up' :?
Then... after about 3 lessons it shifted to being about enjoying the dancing rather than just a good place to socialise, and now after about 3 years it's a mixture of both
I'm simply addicted
Amen to that!
Overtly expressed romantic passion.
I had no idea I could dance until a few months ago (I'm 26). Not that I dance well now, but it seems to be actually getting better. I liked salsa music...and found that it expresses me somehow. It also calms me down and cheers me up.
I guess, to be honest, I also am a bit of an attention-seeker, I like the attention which a good male dancer gets , particularly from the ladies. I would love to get a romantic partner via dancing too, but I still dunno if that really happens.
Executing a dip at just the right moment with the music (especially the finish of a sweat-inducing, fast, charged song with a well-connected partner)... having a lady trust you completely to hold her... that is one of many reasons, but reason enough by itself.
I hate attention and I thought that dancing could help me face that fear.
I also love the physical and mental challenge in dancing. And it never ends, it can always get better.
And then this high you get while dancing, it's so freeing...
I salsa because it is part of who I am. 8)
I salsa because it is the mother of all passions. Within a lifetime of a person there are only a few things that will change his/her life completely, and for me salsa is one of them.
#1 reason: MUSIC. I become unstoppable (even for having danced only a month+) on the floor when I dance to music of Ray Barretto, Tito Puente and the great Latin jazz artists. The tribal beat of the congos gets my heart racing and the syncopated clave rhythm gets my adrenaline pumping. Add to that the trumpets' glorious call and I get an unimaginable infusion of energy that can carry me into the long hours of the night. Just typing this gets me excited about my class tonight.
I know why I used to scoff at salsa before. I thought salsa was romanticized Marc Anthony, La India, et al. I never realized that it's the lowest energy source there is as far as salsa goes.
(Cha cha is another passion. Even doing the basic moves On2 with a lot of sabor and body motion is an incredible high. Add a few shines to it and it's bliss) 8)
Yep, that, plus the connection with your dancepartner; on the dancefloor I try to achieve the "holy trinity",
The Music, Your Partner, and You.
cause i'm was born a dancer.. salsa is ''one of the major cherries on the cake for me".. i just had to eat it
I don't choose to do it, the music makes me. I just show up.
Very true. 8)
Adding some spiritual feeling to salsa--I like that.
The alchemy of dance. Holding the inner and the outer, the hand and the heart. Transmutation into trinity.
To balance out my stressful and hectic job. Salsa is a good way for me to blow off steam--on the floor I don't think about anything else except for the music, the dance and my partner
