    Chicago this weekend?

I agree, it was crowded, and I stood on the sidelines for a number of songs, having no desire to go out on the tiny bits of available floor! Re: Tuesdays Alhambra is the new hot spot for Tuesdays. It's HUGE, swanky, and has a good crowd consistently. Green Dolphin is still going, and I prefer...

    Chicago this weekend?

Weekends in Chicago have been kind of rough of late. There's not one central place on fridays or saturdays for the time being. The socials haven't seemed as consistently scheduled this fall, and Rumba, though consistent, is generally more crowded. I went there this past Saturday for the first...

    Edinburgh next wkend

So I had a lovely time out dancing in Glasgow! I went with my sisters to the Buff and we had a great time dancing. As is true in salsa scenes everywhere, folks were friendly, asked us both to dance plenty, and we chatted with a few people. The floor was pretty gross though. There was a wood...

    Edinburgh next wkend

I'll be travelign Scotland with my mom & sisters from the 12th-22nd of June. My sisters and I might go out dancing while we're in Edinburgh on either the 13th or 14th. Any recommendations or fun options? My sister dances Cuban style primarly, and I dance on1, on2, and can pull off cuban style...

    Bachatango?

Ok, it's not that bad! It mixes up standard bachata nicely, I think.

    Bachatango?

Anyone heard of this hybrid before? I realize that bachata can borrow things from Tango in general, but some searches on youtube seem to have a similarity in song choice and to include both a lot of bachata as well as tango (not just borrowing a few dips). Just one example that came up...

    Songs with clave

There's a track on the Charanga Habanera CD from their concert in Japan. I don't know the song's name, but it's all instrumental and builds just from the clave. I think it's about an 8 or 9 minute long song...Anyone else know the name? I can't find that disc on their website's discography...

    First Congress Experience

This weekend will be my first time at a Congress. I'm very excited, obviously. I'm wondering what to expect in a few ways: crowds--do a LOT of people come in from out of town, or should I expect to see mostly chicagoans? timing--how late am I going to want to stay/when does it end? how...

    Chicago Congress

It is pricey. That's why I'm only going saturday the 16th. I want to go sunday too, but have to work on the 18th, and know i won't be able to stay out as late/soak up every minute of it, and can't justify going both nights on my budget! Let me know if you end up in town! I have friends in...

    Cha cha cha...West Coast Swing...

thanks for responding to the original question--that sort of makes sense, along with what kayak commented about in the feel of the dancing. I do try to keep my movements more smooth, and while the steps are each pronounced, i'm not bouncing/moving up and down vertically much at all, which may...

    Chicago Congress

Anyone going to be at the Chicago Congress this year? I'll be there Saturday, the 16th for the concert/dancing. Let me know--hope to meet some of you folks!

    Cha cha cha...West Coast Swing...

Hmmmm. I feel like I do mark/accent the syncopation clearly as I dance--I think it looks so neat when I've seen others dance it that way, and have tried to emulate that as I dance. Is there something in how break steps are done that could be similar between WCS & cha cha cha?

    Cha cha cha...West Coast Swing...

Not sure what you mean by this? (not familiar with the term & to what it refers...)
