What justifies the high spending cost for learning to dance to you?

This is key for me. On the flip side, when I realize I am dreading something and I come away either vaguely unhappy or relieved it's over, it's time to stop spending the money. I'm in a situation like that right now. I just need to make it across the next goal line (not too far out) and we're...

how are your lessons going? thread II

Even better is when it turns out I have drilled it wrong, and now it's ingrained in muscle memory.

    exposing too much when dancing

In theory I can see a case for keeping it between you and the exposed person. However, when I imagine myself as the exposed person, I have to agree that this would probably be a much less embarrassing and uncomfortable conversation coming from another woman that I trust (I'm giving you the...

    winter olympics 2018

I got home too late and haven't watched everything yet, but I saw a highlight and I'm looking forward to seeing it on the DVR tonight. That being said, I saw the Russian couple's final skate... yikes. Johnny Weir must have been reading my mind when he started talking about poor music choices...

how are your lessons going? thread II

Two consecutive lessons last night. Lesson #1 with instructor #1 was excellent - my favorite visiting coach was in town, gave us some fantastic guidance for technical improvements on our Showcase routines. Definitely will elevate it to the next level if I can successfully implement, I am...

coupons and other money saving activities

Same here, at 1.5%. I card almost everything. (Somewhat of a bummer that I have to write checks to one of my current pros, I've always paid for dance via credit card at home studio and have earned a boatload of redemption credit as a result). Have never carried a balance. Also makes it...

    winter olympics 2018

FWIW, it seems like they've gotten better in recent years about showing more competition footage and less backstory. I was pleasantly surprised at how much actual skating (and other events) I was actually able to see, relative to the amount of time on personal bios.

coupons and other money saving activities

I'm also a coupon clipper, mainly applicable to items I use regularly anyways (mostly toiletries). I'm not very good at timing sales, so if something non-perishable on my list is on sale, I buy 1-2 extras. I've been making a more concerted effort to stave off impulse purchases. The rule is...

    winter olympics 2018

I should clarify - I really enjoyed the Latin themed ice dancing (I meant "interesting" in a good way). At one point we were watching biathlon, and DH said "What is this craziness? People are skiing and shooting at stuff?" I learned a few other new things, apparently I have been...

    winter olympics 2018

Watching figure skating, though mostly via DVR. Interesting how ice dancing has now become ballroom (well, Latin) dancing on ice, wrt styles and music - straight off a party playlist - though a couple of of those "rumbas" sounded like sambas to me.

Teacher helps handicapped girl experience dance

I think snapdancer is referring to the fact that all we can see is a box that says "This Facebook post is no longer available. It may have been removed or the privacy settings of the post may have changed."

Things you never want to hear again

"Bring a guest". If we could just have one party free from the usual announcements beseeching us to bring in guests and the associated incentives, I would be so grateful. I came here to dance, not to play free recruiter. I'd expand this to "You should..." in general, regarding event...

What justifies the high spending cost for learning to dance to you?

I agree with this, in case my post was not clear about that. That only applies to things that are on my "interested in" list.

    Seen Any Good Movies Lately?

Saw "I, Tonya" yesterday evening. I personally enjoyed it, with the understanding that it's far from objective and not everyone's cup of tea. There were actually a lot of humorous moments/quips during the first 2/3rds or so before things got serious.

What justifies the high spending cost for learning to dance to you?

In addition to what I posted previously, one of the other factors in my decision making now is the recognition that current opportunities may not always be on the table. "Seize the moment", if you will. There's no guarantee that the status quo (certain pros/instructors being available, my...
