    Salsa in Raleigh Durham N.C.

They have clubs that have latin nights, but those are usually on the weekends. I think there's a Thursday night Salsa and Bachata event that starts up next week, but I don't know of anything happening on Wednesdays. I'll ask around and get back to you.

DCR, when are you headed to the area? The Cobos often have a 1-hr social after their classes on Wednesdays, but their fall semester hasn't started up yet.

    SYTYCD Judges--Why so nasty?

That's what got me--Mia got really personal with Brandon. Her critique went far beyond his dancing, and I felt like she went too far.

    SYTYCD Judges--Why so nasty?

ITA! Cat took a little while to grow on me, but she really comes across as very kind and interested in all of the contestants.

    SYTYCD Judges--Why so nasty?

I read in another thread that folks thought these judges were a pain in the butt..and now I get it! I don't ever remember being this annoyed from previous seasons. I think Tyce was just snarky for no reason (and not even witty) and Mia was just really nasty to Brandon. Nasty to the point where...

Better for your dancing? (once every month) or 1 week intensely every 6 months

ITA with wooh. I'd say that dancing more consistently is key to maintaining your progress. (I know this from experience, because I was awfully rusty dancing this past weekend from not being consistent in my practice!)

    Chicago this weekend?

I ended up just going for the day. I did, however, take a killer Core Fusion class at the Exhale Spa (combo of Lotte Berke, pilates, barre and yoga) that will definitely help my dancing...if I can walk tomorrow!

    Chicago this weekend?

I'm headed to Chicago this Sunday to get my hair done (pickings are slim in my town!) and I figure I might as well drive in the night before so I don't have to start driving at 4AM! Does anyone have any suggestions for dancing on Saturday night?

    Argentine tango posture

I hope I'm not retreading this whole issue in a non-productive way, but I'm new to AT and still trying to figure out the nuances of posture and positioning. I thought that the A-stance was kind of what you should go for in terms of posture/positioning, but in the other holds (e.g. practice)...

Salsa Dancer Attempting to Learn Tango

It sounds to me like you're talking about keeping the weight centered, rather than going from side to side. If so, this makes a lot of sense. In pilates, there's a lot of focus on this type of thing. For example, doing one exercise where one leg is bent and the other leg is extended in the...

You won't dance with me, I don't dance with you

I have to say that I would have probably danced with this guy. However, I also believe in the power of shame. ;) I have a problem with people wanting the benefits of group classes (practicing with a wide variety of leads/follows) when it's convenient and then secluding themselves off at other...

Salsa Dancer Attempting to Learn Tango

Angel, you have thoroughly confused me! LOL (Just kidding.) It sounds to me like you're talking about a subtle weight shift, rather than a 'march'. Is this in the ballpark?

Salsa Dancer Attempting to Learn Tango

Peaches, walking for me is no longer 'hard'. It is now an 'opportunity' (as my old supervisor in retail would say!) I think I understand what you mean here. I did a lot of observation of folks at the milonga I attended. I'm sure there were plenty of bad habits as well as good. I saw some...

Salsa Dancer Attempting to Learn Tango

Update after my first beginner's lesson Walking is Hard. The end. LOL Seriously, walking is really, really hard. I'm sure all of the tango folks on the board are laughing uproariously. :p I really like my new instructor. He spent the first lesson on posture and walking. He had us do an...
