How do you answer this question?

On the positive side, she wants to dance with you. On the negative side, she has a high sense of entitlement. I guess my answer would have depended completely upon my mood of the day. Good mood = ‘Oh sorry, I am not keeping statistics of whom I dance with. But let’s correct that right away’. Bad...

    Recommended teaching videos?

The problem of many of these videos is that they show how to do things correctly. What they usually don’t show are the typical errors that beginners make. Just learned the ocho cortado for example. It took me a few exercises to understand how I need to place my feet to get an ocho cortado...

What to do about gender imbalance

I understand why you say that both roles are totally separated in your brain. I am not advocating in any way a mix-up of leading and following. But I still think it would be helpful to experience the other role from time to time. In our class for example, we had to do a first very simple...

What to do about gender imbalance

I am a beginning lead. In our class, there is no problem of gender imbalance. Just wanted to signal that it would not disturb me to take up a follower role from time to time. I believe that it would help me understand better how the lead is perceived (or not) by the follower, and that it would...

I like this performance formula :-)

I was aware of the existence of Jack & Jill competitions in other dances. Saw among others a mindblowing performance of West Coast Swing somewhere on Dance Forum. But I had not yet seen this formula applied to Argentine tango. I like to watch top dancers perform in a setting closer to how tango...

I like this performance formula :-)

Being from Brussels, I was watching videos of performances at the Brussels Tango Festival 2016. Beside the usual performances, I very much like this formula where the partners are paired randomly and the music is chosen by the DJ. Here Chicho with Roxanna Suarez:

    Practice exercices

Well, I went to my second Practica. Didn't do much of what I wanted to, but had the opportunity to dance twice in close abrazzo, a first for me! I like it, the lead is much more powerful, but I had a lot of trouble with ochos loool!

    Argentine Tango competitions

I liked both couples on the last song (Patetico). I find it a bit of a pity that ganchos are not allowed in the 'Tango de Salon' category.

Keeping track of partner's free leg

Interesting. I take note, but so far this anti-mirror thing has not bugged me. :wacky:

    Tango syllabus

During today's lesson, I had the opportunity to try out Ana & Diego's approach. Well, it went very smoothly. I doubt I would be able to place that barrida in a real dance setting, but it was fun nevertheless.

    Practice exercices

Hello everyone, It is me again  I will try to attend a Practica every Monday. I was wondering how to make the best use of these Practica. My current objective is to dance a bit decently whithout doing anything more complicated than walking, side steps, and ochos. Any ideas welcome...

Keeping track of partner's free leg

Yes, I have been thinking about that myself. But then I wonder a bit whether my partner is not going to get bored.

Keeping track of partner's free leg

As I already said, my key takeaway from this thread is that we are constantly switching between parallel and crossed system. The fact that I didn't realise this before was probably the cause of many errors on my side. Now I have a clear path forward for my practices.

    Robo-ochos

Yes indeed. I am certainly far from good, but I really don't have the impression that my leads are the issue here. One example: I led my partner to do a back ocho to my left. She did the back ocho. But well before I had completed my side step and regained my balance, she had already continued...
