Is there a good explanation of Naveira and Salas' tango analysis?

What I find lacking in these geometrical methodologies is that they rarely focus on movements in the vertical direction. I struggled a lot with the pattern-oriented, geometric-centric, mostly because the emphasis of the teachers I had at the beginning was on "OK, so let's explore what can we do...

Let's just say that the dancing was the last thing I noticed :P

    Giro-ing towards the partners 'center'.

Style of dancing or style of discussion in the forum? ;)

    Giro-ing towards the partners 'center'.

I think the difference lies in the closeness of the embrace. Generalizing to both roles, if you do giros in a much closer embrace, you have to take extra care not to knock your partner off-axis. At the same time, you need to provide some forward resistance to help maintain the connection, all...

    The lead for the cruzada

Hornet's nest? This is probably one of the nicest & most productive threads we've had on a very controversial topic in a long time! :-)

Sobre-passos instead of rebotes in VU?

    I like that definition.

Sobre-passos instead of rebotes in VU?

I do not claim any authority regarding the semantic use of traspie vs. rebote. My quirky definition makes sense to me, considering that the definition of the word "traspié" is "to stumble", and the way I stumble most is falling the same direction I'm originally going. Again, this is a quirky...

Sobre-passos instead of rebotes in VU?

Re: going in the same direction as you rock, imagine taking a small side step to the left with your left foot, pressing into the floor. This will make your weight shift to the right foot while the left foot is still on the floor (for a split second, you're standing with your feet apart). You...

Sobre-passos instead of rebotes in VU?

I've always explained rebotes to myself (and others) as rock steps where you rebound off one foot and change direction, whereas with a traspie you keep going in the original direction.

Sobre-passos instead of rebotes in VU?

I think the issue here is that some people when doing rebotes move their center too far towards (and sometimes over) the rebounding foot, that it looks very spastic. I notice that most with left-turn rock steps. Whether doing one thing or the other is "more correct" is highly subjective, as we...

When do you stop being a beginner?

One time, while I was at a milonga that was part of a visiting teacher's workshop weekend, one lady I was dancing with thanked me profusely for coming over, teaching and being very generous with my dancing. I had to assure her repeatedly that I was not, in fact, that visiting teacher. Gotta...

    Traffic declining?

Ironically, the OP who berated me over my perceived lack of knowledge was coming from a Nuevo proponent POV :-)
