What to do about gender imbalance

Good milonga organizers usually have volunteers who help to organize a milonga. They get free classes in exchange. These volunteers often come to sitting people and ask them to dance.

How do you answer this question?

There are ladies who are never asked to dance. They either leave or get extremely pushy. There is a tiny lady here who dances as if she has never taken a class even though she has been around for years. She approaches every man and almost always get dances. I always reject her.

What do you expect from the men you dance with?

I get confused. A woman executes high boleos instead of low boleos, which don't hurt anybody. But it's her partner's fault. She shouldn't dance with a partner who leads boleos. Beginners usually don't know stage figures. It's the "better" dancers who want to shine and attract beautiful ladies...

What do you expect from the men you dance with?

At the end of the tango ocho, a woman collects her feet and turns gracefully. If a milonga is fast, she has no time and must do very a simpler ocho. It's actually a good warming exercise. Not everybody can do it. Something like this:

What do you expect from the men you dance with?

Is the 6-step box a figure? I can easily lead it with one lady dancing a tango. I can't lead it with her dancing a milonga. She is off music and late. Or the back ocho. The milonga variant is a different figure. Milonga steps work perfectly with some ladies, but not with others. I'm sure they...

What do you expect from the men you dance with?

Followers do need to know figures. A good man, certainly, can lead even an inexperienced woman, but it is 10 times more difficult than with an advanced woman who knows most figures. When an advanced woman doesn't get a figure the first time, she will quickly adjust to it the second time. The...

What do you expect from the men you dance with?

I actually prefer ladies who know as many steps and figures as possible. I don't care if they wear rags and awful scents. I invite a lady, who has been coming to milongas for years, and she says, "I can't dance milonga." What can I do? My teacher says that it's very easy for ladies to get to...

How long to wait before asking follower again?

Do you want additional humiliation? Some people just don't want to dance with each other. Sometimes, they have to invent reasons for doing so. You invite a lady. She expresses her dissatisfaction with words or her cold face. That's it. You'll forget her in no time.

Why are so many men lousy navigators?

If there are fewer better dancers, there will be fewer floorcraft issues as there will be more space for the remaining dancers.

Why are so many men lousy navigators?

If I know that a milonga is super crowded and dancers at the milonga randomly hit each other, but I still go there, it's only my problem. I try to survive there somehow. I try to arrive early when it's empty. Then sit around 10pm when everybody dances. Then continue.

What to do about gender imbalance

Every woman has her own goal. * She may want to find a husband. * She may want to perform. * She may want to learn fancy female adornments. I would say that some teachers are first-class, some are second-class, but they all charge the same amount. First-class teachers usually have dancing...

Why are so many men lousy navigators?

What can you do if a floor is crowded? You can sit and wait until it clears out, or never go to that milonga. Why would you want to change somebody's behavior? I found out that milongas in the center of a city are usually very crowded. What can I do? I can only circle in a small spot without...

What to do about gender imbalance

It happens rather often. I can usually tell if a woman will continue coming to the class or not. Unfortunately, many beautiful women drop out quickly. I bring my partner to a class that is more expensive, but less crowded. The teachers often come to her, dance with her, and try to fix her...

What to do about gender imbalance

Maybe, it's time to check other studios around the town even if they are far away or more expensive. Your studio doesn't teach what women want.

    Argentine Tango Frestyle

It seems like an event where you can try to repeat the steps that you have learned for the last weeks with the ladies from your class. Advanced ladies will ignore you. Anybody can visit a practica, so they will be waiting for their regular partners.
