Black Gowns (and other ways to shoot yourself in the foot)

I ALWAYS scored better in black. Not sure why? But, I think it carries a sort of seriousness. I remember reading somewhere long ago that Maria Manusova always work black because she wanted her dancing to speak for itself. Not all that frilly stuff. Even watching videos, competition heats...

    mens thumb question

I would go along. It more than a matter of decoration. Thumbs folded can create a gripping effect (in some not all) which causes tension in the forearm. This can create additional tension in the upper arm, shoulder, neck and so on. This may be what your partner is trying to avoid. So talk to...

Standard dancers - what's happening here?

Please refrain from being insulting here. I danced standard for many years and what I would like to point out is... People don't realize how uncomfortable being on the inside of the hold and always to the left can be (not to mention boring). Especially after a few minutes and several rounds. I...

Standard dancers - what's happening here?

So do I. What I find interesting is how everyone is talking about the girls head movements. But if you watch the guy, there is plenty going on there too...Next thing you know, we'll be talking about her hair and her dress:rolleyes:

    Soften straps on Latin shoes?

If they are satin, you can try dabbing them with some rubbing alcohol and then twisting them with your hands to soften them up. Alcohol tends to be less damaging than water when it comes to satin. Also you can try wearing them for a little while around the house with some socks and this will...

    USA Dance resignations

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. From what I remember, when Peter resigned in 2009 USA dance started going downhill. I think he may be the right person to go head to head with other dance organizations because he has dealt with them in the past.

    Dance Forums on Mobile

We have a new banner on the way. It will be smaller but not static. Hopefully this will help. As far as non static vs static, we would like to keep all ads static. But that said, we strive to keep Dance Forums free for everyone. There are a lot of behind the scenes costs and the annual auction...

    Trends in Competition Dresses??

I think it would look better if, instead of the sleeve, you had 2-3 thin bands that attach to the float. This will allow it to be a little more drapey. Another thought would be you could simply have three little streamer floats on each arm.

    Trends in Competition Dresses??

Do you have pictures? or maybe a picture of something similar? You could detach the float from the sleeves and attach it to bracelets instead. This may give the float a more flowing look.

    Trends in Competition Dresses??

Are you sure? Well, it looks like it would glow in the dark to me :) It just seemed to me to be an effort to stand out. Around 11:44-46 all three dresses are seen and it is so blinding. True. There do seem to be more interesting dresses. I was kinda bummed for awhile because it seemed they were...
