All the couples in the tango adulto category look and dance the same to me. They all begin with the embrace first, then the hand; it's the opposite in the milongas where the woman's hand is taken first. They all begin drawing circles with the foot before moving.

The winners in tango adulto & milonga competed three years ago in the world championships with different partners.

why do they do the drawing circles?

That's a good question. No one does it in the milongas del centro. However, it has been adopted by all young couples for exhibitions. Take a look at any of the touring couples or world champions -- they all begin to dance this way. They are copying what they see on videos or someone told them to do it that way. Is it necessary? No.
