Hi, I'm a pretty good dancer. But the thing is that when I'm dancing at a party or club or anywhere, I can't seem to get low. My thighs start aching and I can only dance low half-way and i have to get right back up. Are there any stretches or anything I can do to help me out? thanks!

Hi k187. Welcome. :D

I'm sure there are some DF member who'd be glad to share their hamstring and quad stretches with you. Right, guys and gals? 8)

My favorite is the standing quad stretch that's borrowed from yoga. Hmm. Hard to describe; easy to do. I'll google and see if I can find pictures. :)

Something that I too need to work on...improving my flexibility. If you see me on the dance floor I'm pathetic!!

Hey, k187 and welcome to DF...I'm not even slightly qualified to answer this, but I used to have the same problem, in conjunction with really weak ankles, and found that there were lots of exercises to strengthen those areas, but it depends on whether you want exercises that you can do on your own or at a gym.

At a gym, there are endless possibilities and better-trained people to explain their gadgetry, but but if you're after do-it-yourself strength training, maybe you could try hamstring curls for your hammys and squats for your quads.

Just be careful of your knees though and be sure to check with someone qualified before undertaking the exercises. Everybody's body is different! Personally, squats kill my knees and I avoid them like the plague!

Good old fashioned squats are good for strengthening the quads and hamstrings. They have to be done with proper form, though, or as MadamSamba said, you can really hurt your knees.

I go down really low on my merengues(esp. as the guys I'm dancing with are 10" shorter than me!) and I can feel it the next day, but I don't have any trouble when I'm dancing.

I do about 100 lunges per day, squats(with small, 2.5 kilo weights) and 200 sit-ups, which stretches out that top thigh muscle, whatever it's called. I think the lunges do me best, as it keeps the old bum really firm and way up there!
