I'm really sad about what happened to him. His performance in Brokeback Mountain blew me away and I thought he was fantastic in his other films too. I think this is the first time I actually shed tears over a celebrity's tragedy. RIP

It's a tragedy; Heath was only 28 years old. His performance in Brokeback Mountain was amazing. Rest in Peace, Heath.

It is really sad. He was really growing as an actor. At least his last movie will be remembered, with him being the infamous joker.

This is the first time i said i ever cried for someone's death that i do not know personaly. I loved all of his movies. my prayers are with his family and friends. RIP.

Apparently, to get ready for his role as the Joker he spent an entire month in solitude away from people, and kept a daily journal in which he pretended he was the psychotic Joker. It was so stressful that at some point he could only sleep 2 hours a day or something. That's an admirable amount of dedication to your craft but you have to wonder at some point if it's really worth it....

Apparently that might have been why he was taking the sleeping pills. He said in an interview just recently that he was having a hard time sleeping at night because of it, and he'd wake up, take an ambien, and then wake up an hour later and take two more and still not make it through the night. Method acting so intensly can be dangerous.
RIP Heath

Such a pitty! Such a great person gone!

This is a great loss for Hollywood! New Batman movie is coming out with his great performance yet! Drug are bad! Rest in Peace Heath!! Angel2008 it's too sad :(

I thought I read that the two hours a day sleep was what was happening during his current movie? That he had not 'come down' from Batman and had gone practically straight into his latestone.

Not sure on the techniques, but from what I understand (not an actress! but from readings/small discussions) "a great actor" is one where you see his/her character, not him/her. In order to do immerse oneself in such a way, the actor has to be able to let go of their own identity. I read an extract from a bio of Charleston Heston and if I remember correctly, after he finished playing a number of his roles, he would be going around the house acting/carrying on as if he were still that character. It may have been partially anecdotal on the part of his wife...

Have also read though that if people 'act confident', there are times when that acting stops and they really are more confident people...
