Hops and Runs in Quickstep

Dear All,

Quickstep figures can generally be classed as:

1) Step-Swing figures e.g. Natural Turn, Running Right Turn, Tipple chasse
2) Step/hop-Swing figures e.g. 2 x step hops, Scatter chasses, Pepperpot
3) Running figures e.g. The Qs of a promenade run, typically after a pepperpot, Running quick open rev, running hover cross into lunge, etc.

The technique for the Step-Swing figures is similar to the other swing dances, and you often here about it from teachers and congress videos, etc.

The technique for Step-hop figures and Running figures seems a lot less clear and far fewer teachers or congress videos seem to have much to say about it...

Does anyone have any thoughts/tips.

I have some ideas, but can't describe them particuarly clearly, so will wait to see what others can offer. Thanks!

well i'm not a very proficient dancer, but my coach tells me to use the standing leg and generate power from gravity into the floor, even in those figures!

and of course, quick feet.

I would say that you want to make sure you stay down mostly on step hops and runs. The tendency is going to be to get too high. Might I ask what groups you are using? For example are you running in Promenade or closed? What do the step hops precede/follow?
