So I am going to a dance and I know I suck at dancing. I read the "I have no idea how to dance" thread and I think I might be retarded. By "shift the weight" do you mean like bend my left knee and lean left... or what exactly? The dance will be a high school dance so like hip-hop/rap etc music will be played. I am not 100% on the exact type of dancing... pretty sure grinding/a whole bunch of ppl just jumping around. The second one worries me more (dont get me wrong I am really worried) but that one I am more in the open. Got any quick advice on how to at least look normal?
well first of all I wouldn't worry at all b/c normal will be that almost everyone else feels the same way that you do and has no idea how to really dance...shifting wieght is basically what you do when you are changing weight from one foot to the other, not what you thought it was...you shift wieght (if you ar smart and you like your knees)naturally when you just sway or step side to side.....which is never a bad way to look like you know what you are doing....never looking down and having good posture are also good things to use that you can implement right away...real dancing i'm afraid, is not a crash course...so ask for lesson for christmas;)

Good points made by fascination and caityrose.
The #1 rule of dancing is it supposed to be fun. If you learn that rule REALLY well, then you will probably keep dancing, and if you keep dancing, you will surely be a great dancer one day!

(but for started, have fun...who know? Maybe people will laugh at you. It happens to me all the time, and I'm supposed to be a good dancer, but even that is fun if you look at it the right way)
