One of the most ubiquitous, beautiful, and favorite AT pieces to dance to. How many times can you dance to Francisco Canaro's "Poema?"

I have used this song many times in w/s for teaching musicality. Actually, there is a thread going on now about musicality. Perhaps, you should pick 2-3 of these, and start a thread on musicality (as there are least 3-4 different interpretations here).

Thanks for sharing these. Incidentally, I have never seen Jennifer dance better. This was good.

Yup, Jennifer's dancing has evolved. She dance with us during the weekend, and her dancing is getting "Smaller," but more refined. Its also another trend I see with some people.

Thanks Angel, good suggestion on the musicality thing...

Interesting... b/c if this were over in the sister thread on musicality, it would make hair stand on end. IMO, understanding that musicality is 90% unique to the individual, it, to me, is almost nonexistent.

I don't know - how do ATers guage an AT dance? What makes one couple better than another? Or maybe there is no single judgement....
I see. IMHO, you are right in saying that there is no one single judgement. Unlike ballroom where everything is measurable, AT is dynamic and improvisational within a set of parameters. One judges an AT performance as a whole package, based on it's whole effect.

The people featured in the videos are all professionals at the top of their game. All of them are accomplished. Each dances to their own interpratations based on their style of AT. Its one of those things that make AT beautiful, and difficult at the same time.

They may not look like something one would expect in a show or stage performance. But, one thing is for certain, should one dance with any of them, it would be something magical.

I have just patented the "AT Guage" that takes into account atmospheric pressure; relative humidity, temperature, audience's collective emotion; passion, artistic integrity; musicality and a lot more. trouble is it's slightly larger than the Cerne Particle Accelerator and is not particularly portable. ;)

I was trying so hard to avoid that particular post BTM but it appears I still failed ;) As I understand it AT is judged by the ATing, much as the proverbial pie. How wonderful. :)

insofar as "judging" is concerned; my journalist friend in reference to appreciation (or not) of Miles Davis' music, expressed it as (i'm paraphrasing here) "meeting our needs for aesthetic delight".

You are right there is no single judgement (Loud booming voice From Above says "H YES THERE IS"

So the AT Guage has incorporated the Vulcan balancer "Where the Needs of the One outweigh the Needs of the Many" so if one small child thinks someone's dancing is magical THEN IT IS no matter how many others think otherwise.

I was referring to the quantal shift thread - one that I think every AT dancer would connect with instantly and realize that 'real' ballroom and AT are very much the same thing...

sorry to be a heretic. Well, not really, its my opus operandi...

Perhaps this does boil down to a matter of preference. I will say that Javier and Geraldine win this one hands down in my book. The connection, the musicality, the dynamics of movement, the perfection of movement... it's all there for me. :)

Then you are right! :)
