A lot of the leads that I know have as their main shoes, shoes that look like mens dress shoes with a raw leather sole. I think Aris Allen do a white version of these specifically for dancing but they might be available in brown or black maybe? Anyway basically you want something with a sole that is not too sticky. Leather is very good for that, some rubber soles wear into fairly slidy soles (keds usually do) and they'd work as well
I'm curious as to what kind of shoes you can wear to a meeting at your job? What's the dress code of the place you dance at? At my job its business casual so I can wear a nice pair of sneakers to a meeting. Where I go dancing its very casual and the dancing is really athletic. We tend to have the posture of basketball players not upright ballroom dancers. So I wear the same nice pair of sneakers I wear at work to go dancing. For me they just need to be not slippery, non marking, and look good. I've gone to target and found $25 mossimo shoes that look nice and move well on the dance floor. I've also recently bought a pair of Sketchers that work well for both situations as well. If I was performing, going to a dance competition, or dancing somewhere that was more formal I would invest in something more formal. It all depends on your situation.
This has been covered in another thread a while ago. I THINK Florsheim Dancers was one option. "The Florsheim Dancer dress is crafted with handsewn moccasin construction and an elastic gore for comfort. This loafer is crafted to glide effortlessly on the dance floor."
