Spanish Harlem Orchestra

We would like to thank everyone for making last night a success and a special thanks to the members of Spanish Harlem Orchestra for an outstanding show.

Rumors have have been spread and continue to surface that our Mondays have either closed or are ending...please come and see for yourself that it is NOT TRUE!! If you don't personally hear it from us...please don't believe it. This has been an ongoing problem for quite some time...and our Simply Salsa Mondays have continued for over two and a half years.

The owner of El Flamingo will maintain his doors open as long as you continue to attend.

Our Monday nights are for the true salsa lovers and we are here for you as long as you want us to be. Our goal is to maintain true Salsa alive and present in New York City and we do this for the love of our music.

Alfredo De Le Fe

Alfredo De Le Fe is the first solo violinist in the world of Salsa.

In 1965 he performed the Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky violin concertos at Carnegie Hall, which won him a scholarship to Julliard Arts. That same year he started to play with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

In 1966 Alfredo joins the José Fajardo orchestra, considered the best flute player in the world of salsa and Cuban music. This is when he made a change from classical to Salsa. His career starts to ascend through great Salsa stars such as Celia Cruz (his godmother). In 1972 he meets Eddie Palmieri and has the opportunity to participate in his Grammy awarded productions such as: "The Sun of Latin Music” & “Unfinished Masterpiece”.

In 1976, Alfredo moves to San Francisco to form part of Carlos Santana's group and returns to New York in 1977 to join Tipica 73, one of the hottest salsa bands in that era.

He then records his first solo album in 1979 entitled "ALFREDO" LP Ventures, which was nominated for three Grammy awards. The song "Hot to Trot" from that same album reached the top 100 charts in the United States. In 1980 Alfredo joins the "Tito Puente's Latin Jazz Ensemble" as musical director and travels through Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. Along with Tito Puente, he participated in some of the most important jazz festivals around the world.

With the SAR All Stars he produced 40 LP's for artists such as: Roberto Torres, Papaito, Henry Fiol, Charanga 76, etc.

He has performed with some of the most influential names in jazz such as Dizzy Gillespie, David Amram, Chick Corea, Larry Coryel, etc.

Others important names Alfredo has performed with include Rubén Blades, Celia Cruz, Hector Lavoe, Willie Colón, Ray Barretto, Cheo Feliciano, Fania All Stars, Ismael Miranda, Larry Harlow, Charanga 76, Charanga Casino, Orquesta Broadway, Orquesta Novel, Dave Valentín & Herb Alpert among others.
