I purchased a dress from them way back when I started dancing. For the price, I would say the quality is very good and a bit above the usual dress at that level. It fit well and the style was different than the usual low-end variety. Typical of that level of dress, they use the less expensive crystals, and it shows against the sparklier variety - but for a beginner, it's perfectly fine.
That said, I never actually wore my dress in competition. I outgrew it within a couple of months (well, it outgrew me when I dropped two dress sizes), and I ended up purchasing a MUCH more expensive custom dress with high-end stoning. I would definitely recommend Swan Studio, though, especially if you're looking for an inexpensive beginner dress.
I have actually purchased several dresses from Swan. PM me if you seek molre detail than I give. The dresses, depending on fabric and cut design moves well and is much better quality, IMO, than other sources. Several ladies from our studio have worn Swan dresses in larger comps, showcases, scholarship final rounds, etc etc and felt it was good money for the dress they purchased. Several have gone on - to purchase other dresses from Swan. And, actually I still wear mine if the song and mood - go with the dress.! Again, PM me if you want to know more.
Perfect Astoria. These are great dresses for showcases. Depending. of course on the look you want. The workmanship and detail is definately bang for your buck - if you want lots of decoration and if you want your skirt to really fly get the dresses with several layers of chiffon skirts sometimes with the crinoline trim on the bottom. Don't be afraid to take the "floats" off of the anchored stitch. Most Swan dresses have floats. Enjoy.
I bought some wonderfull dresses from them but now they dissapeared from e-bay. All dresses were superb and the quality was very good. Does anybody know if they still exist and if yes where? I would like to find them and buy some other dresses.
Hi! I have purshased one dress from SwanStudio and I have been thrilled! The price was $350 including the int'l shipping and I find the quality better than my peers who paid 3-4x the price from local designers. I added some swarowski crystal myself and I get more compliments for my Swan Studio dress than any other one I have! I even have had judges and male pro's compliment the dress at competitions!
They are still very much on eBay (but a little more pricey than before). as of today (10/5), they have 38 dresses for sale/auction in their eBay store.
Be careful about Swan studio, I had a terrible experience with them. I ordered a custom dress with Christine fabric from Swan studio, they have no artistic sense, completely ignored my design. After giving them couple of opportunity to correct the design, they still couldn’t do it, I gave up on them, so I had to ask them to ship me the plane dress. What is worse is that when I received the plane dress, I noticed very visible big sweat stain on both side of the armpits, I emailed the photos of the stain to the owner Frank, he denied the sweat stain, refused to take it back and credit any money to me. Apparently they let someone wear my dress. He is very unprofessional during this whole process. His factory is in China, they have no pride, they do not honor their work. I took the dress to a dress cleaner, I was told that it looks like Swan studio tried to clean the stain with cleaner and caused permanent stain damage. I paid $1200 for a dress that I can’t even wear due to the sweat stain. I will never buy anything from them again.
They also shamelessly steal pictures from other designers and consignment dress sites and pass them off as their own. While it is not illegal to use the same design and make a knockoff, it's very wrong to use a picture of a danscouture dress and claim that is the dress the person is buying when they're really just buying a cheap copy.
thank you, mindputtee. I didn’t want the mass production dress from Swan studio. I asked them if they can make a dress with my own design, and with all fabric from Chrisanne (not only the top layer) and Swarovski stone. They promised me that they will do a beautiful job. But I didn’t know that they don’t have the skill to do a custom designed dress. I asked them to send me photos before stoning, I was shocked when I saw the photos, they ignored my design and very detailed instruction and refused to admit it. Above that, I can’t imagine any dress maker will send a custom dress to a customer with sweat stain on the armpits and charge the full price. It’s not only unethical, unprofessional, it is disgusting.
Thank you, mindputtee, Swan studio told me to pay with paypal instead of eBay, they may know better than me. I just received the dress in Sept, however Paypal doesn't have protection for custom made dress. iIt is a costly lesson learned from Swan studio. It was my first time dealing with Swan studio, it will definitely the last one.
