Just out of curiosity, who are the ballroom dancers in New Mexico on this forum?

I'm one...(obviously..:)

liangjz, I'm not in New Mexico, but about four hours due west in Arizona from you. Where can you go to dance in Albuquerque? I may visit sometime in the future. I do know there's a WCS club there, but other then that.

I've actually heard there isn't much there.

There isn't much there. If you want country western dancing, you'll be okay, but ballroom just isn't common outside the few dance schools that are there.

I'm afraid you're right. west coast swing includes more than country western around here, but it isn't ballroom.

We're one of the few states in the US without an USABDA chapter, we have very few ballroom dances, and the pool of ballroom dancers is tiny(which is why I made this post,.. to find the few that DO exist)

On the up side, there is one good standards coach in ABQ that I know of. Also, there are plans to get an USABDA chapter started in spring of 2006 and rumblings of a monthly dance in Santa Fe that will be a real ballrom dance(where there won't be any country western played)

From the information I got the WCS club there holds a monthly dance and there's a weekly WCS dance at a place known as Dance Connections. This would be ok for me if I should visit.

What studios are there? do they hold open dancing? just curious though I'd be more likely to attend the WCS activities.

liangjz, I have the WCS club link already, but thanks for both of them.

For Albuquerque, there are two studios that hold ballroom dances of decent length.

NM Dancesport holds a monthly dance and Dance Connections holds a monthly "variety" dance(variety here means 70% country music) I think each is 3 hours. The monthly dance connections one is nice because it is on a very large floor.

For WCS, both the SSNM and AS&CDC hold monthly dances and other get togethers.

Other than that, I think other studios will open their dances to the public, but no one other than their students show up.

Thanks.

Hope you can get USABDA started there; those are almost always good dances from my experience.

You know, if you were going to do WCS in New Mexico, then last weekend would have been the time. We had our annual "Dance Fiesta"(which is 50% wcs and 50% country stuff). 3 days of various events and 3 nights of dancing.

Did you come? Have I already met you? Asian ballroom dancers tend to stick out at a WCS convention in New Mexico, so I can only assume you'd know if you bumped into me.

Anyway, I probably should have mentioned this sooner, but I didn't think of it.

No, I have not visited yet so we haven't met. I don't know when I will, but would like to do so in the future.

When I do I'll let you know. :D
