Some play family football,
Some make cookies,
Some go to bowling and play-off against each other...
What is yours? THAT one Christmas season tradition that involves and is passed down generation to generation.
we always cut our tree down the day after thanksgiving....over the river and through the woods sort of thing...complete with breakfast at a greasy spoon first and hot cider at the tree place...then decorating the tree to christmas carols afterward
We had our annual Christmas Tree Cutting Party with one of my dad's sister's family. It includes my 4 cousins, my parents and I, spouses and or sig others (including my bf this year), and our old day care provider who is practicaly family and her husband. We go up to my Aunt's house, eat lunch, go to a tree farm, argue over Aunt's tree (mom is deathly allergic to pines now :/), cut tree down, head back, eat dinner and dessert and just have a good time.
Christmas tree gets set up on the 1st of December...we have a big family dinner where everyone brings a dish to share...in the morning presents opened, then we spend the rest of the day at said family dinner.
we also have fairly predictable food; ham, polish sausage, cheesy potatoes are all staples...cookies always include christmas or spitz, choc chips and a cranberry orange bread....other things fluctuate, but those are fairly firm
We don't have any particular traditions anymore, as we are scattered a bit these days. But, as a child, we celebrated in the German tradition of a Christmas Eve dinner and celebration, as opposed to Christmas Day. And, we always had duck or goose (with apple stuffing, pickled red cabbage and potatoes), instead of turkey or ham.
