2005--Good or Bad year?

I have to admit, 2005 was a challenging year for me. My 25 year old daughter had a tumor (noncancerous) and ovary removed. My 79 year old Father went blind, my 73 year old Mother passed away, my 49 year old brother in law passed away, a 41 year old friend had a massive heartache and passed away two days before Christmas. My part time antiques business suffered a 60% drop in sales. A challenging year.

But,
We danced in a a major WCS competition for the first time, even if we did not dance well. We danced better at the state contest and actually placed. We joined the exhibition team and had a great time. We met many new friends through dance. I paid off a couple of credit cards. My granddaughter was runner up in the state pageant for her age and went to the National contest. Overall, our health was good and we survived the turmoils in our lives without acrimony. I kept my job and got a raise. We took a vacation and visitied my brother in law before he passed away. My wife and her sisters got closer, after a few years of distancing themselves from each other.

Overall, 2005 was probably not a good year for us, but looking back, we kept pretty well on an even keel through all the changes, so would count it as a success.

I am happy that your outlook is pretty positive, there will always be years that seem to be a real challenge to that.

Agreed, Swingolder. When I saw this thread title, the first answer that came to my mind was, "Yes. 2005 was a good or bad year for me, depending on my perspective." I think it's possible to choose ones outlook on a lot of situations, even the challenging ones. :cool:

Hats off to you, kansas49er. :) And here's hoping you have a less challenging year, this year. :D

2005 was a good year to me. I didnt think so most of the time, but thats just silly teenage drama...
Of course it was good, I started danceing ;)
 
For me, 2005 was good. I got out of an unhappy marriage, and I found DF. :cool:

Here's hoping 2006 is a bit less challenging for you, kansas49er.

Good year pour moi. Resumed tracking expenses via Quicken after a couple years absence. I moved to another rental, after staying at one place for a couple years and the situation is a much better one with a pretty good housemate. Visited Goa, India/parents after almost 2 years, and saw them for the first time after their nasty auto accident. Started the process of homebuying through a first time home buyers program... Joined another dance team...Went camping for the first time since 1994 in the Adirondack region of NY state....
 
2005 was largely a great year for me that just ended on a sour note.

The Highlights: Travelled lots (Seattle, So Cal, upstate NY), fell in love and dated a woman, finished off my second CD of original music

The Weird Ending: Relationship ended suddenly, got ill and also pulled a muscle in my left side, still recovering so it looks like I'll have to live vicariously by watching Dancing With The Stars for a bit.

Looking for 2006 to be a far better year.

Very true, all told I am extremely grateful for the experience of loving this person even though in the end we really weren't right for each other. I have many good memories of it. I learned much too.
