"The questions of "injustice" and charges "I was robbed," make me smile. This is a reality TV show that is produced exceptionally well to incorporate great highs and crashing lows. I have produced shows for many years and know well the "realities" of reality TV. I entered into this adventure knowing full well how these shows are structured and understood from the get-go that fan base also had a lot to do with the outcome. As a journalist, I knew I did not enter the competition with the popularity of others but I jumped in anyway, recognizing the immense opportunity and challenge, not to mention the chance to dance! Many of you did not know me or my work before and I got more exposure in three weeks than I received my entire career. "

that snippet underlines, without any noticeable bitterness, the sad fact that many in the entertainment/news industry understand that their best bet for widespread 'exposure' is a potentially humiliating reality show.

That's the thing though, I'm not sure that DWTS has to be "potentially humiliating." Even if someone's dancing really stinks, they could just step up and say "I guess I really don't have any talent for that, but it was fun to challenge myself and try." I know that I, for one, would respect the heck out of someone like that.

it's potentially humiliating for *me* to dance in public, let alone in front of a camera and theoretically millions of people. it's just a fact. that doesn't mean it MUST be.. there's just a chance.

although for a professional performer, that must be second nature.
Maybe, maybe not. I'm sure some of them still get stage jitters or what have you. To my mind though, a celebrity probably doesn't face the same fear of humilliation simply from public exposure that you or I might -- as long as they deal with it in a dignified manner. I'm not speaking for anyone else but, if I were in Tatum's shoes for instance (aside from my feat hurting) I would have been more humilliated by my poor response to being voted off than anything dance related.

Great letter!!
I had wanted to mention, when she was eliminated, she said such positive things, especially about "older" women learning to dance. I was impressed.
Excellent! Thank you, Giselle!:applause:

tritto!

And remember, many of these people have had years of experience in humiliation...auditioning and not winning parts. Granted, this is national tv, but how many people had heard of Giselle before?

A gracious person, indeed.
