I have gone to Cuba a lot this year and even though I go by myself (for the most part), I would like to do more salsa while I am there. I looked up Salsa Vacations and found a couple that sounded interesting. (One is KeytoCuba with a teacher named Kerry out of England.)

Has anyone taken one of these vacations or known of any other week/two week long total immersion into Salsa?
 
I've heard that Plaza Cuba is a good one. They were also very generous in connecting me with people when I asked them for info as a solo traveler (though I didn't end up using any of their connections). Demasiado caro para mi...

I know quite a few people who went on Key to Cuba trips with Kerry (although I've never been on one myself), and they rave about it. Kerry is a good, fun teacher and knows Cuba well. I think you stay in Havana for a week and another week at a coastal resort. You get classes with local teachers and visit local salsa joints.

Other salsa trips to Cuba popular around here are those organised by Caledonia Languages Abroad (outfit based in Edinburgh). They do regular dance holidays, and their trips go to Santiago de Cuba, you stay with a local host family rather than at a hotel, and the itinerary includes Spanish lessons as well as daily salsa classes.

Salsa Magic Hosts Five Day Excursion to St. Croix January 3-8, 2007

Thank you!!! I am going to be in Jibacoa, visiting Varadero and Havana from January 4th to 11th. I'm going with my long time friend and I'm bringing my puppy back here!
 
Wow, this would be so cool to go to Cuba with some type of plan, or purpose in mind. I'll have to check out some of those groups. I have been wanting to go to Cuba for some time now, and would probably go on my own. And I'd like to get there before....er.... before things start changing there.
 
Oh, I'm sure you're right noobster, but then folks seem to say that it just won't have the same flavor, once Castro's gone. (Starpukes, here we come!) And on one hand, I'd like to thumb my nose at the current "law", and go while it's still "illegal" (I've heard prosecution would never hold up in a court of law. I understand the US hasn't sent anyone to prison for visiting Cuba). It really irks me that here in the "land of the free", we are told we cannot visit a particular country because it pissed off the US government, yet we are free to visit far more horrid countries that treat their citizens far worse. Just shows the hypocrisy of it all.

Just my little diatribe! :--)
