Smooth vs. Standard gown

I am thinking about getting a second designer dress for smooth (probably after OSB) and I want it to be geared more towards smooth, since the dress I currently own is more of a standard dress.

So, other than floats (not so convenient for smooth gowns, and I think a must for a standard gown), what other features tend to differ between smooth and standard gowns?

well...the skirts tended to be fuller though that seems to be changing a bit...and on balance they look less traditional...and last year they were uh...really trending toward minimal, IMO...certainly your front of gown just became more relevant

Smooth gowns don't seem to be constructed with multi-layers of chiffon that are hard to handle. But that might just be a style thing, and who knows where that will go next....

agree...in fact when I the chrisanne came, the sleeves were so long and the chiffon so ornate that it "became" my standard gown...so I bought the dore' in my avatar which I think is really edgey and sharp and far more in tune with what I have been seeing on the floor for smooth lately, although that has never been my big concern...I try to make sure that all of my dresses could be worn for either if they had to be.... and that I just like them regardless of current trends....the dore' in fact I had a detachable fade float added to it in case I use it for standard...not ideal , but if I want to go to a small comp and not drag everything around it will be just fine...as for fashion, my first gown was out of style before I had it made...it is a copy of something nancy senner wore long ago...but I looooove it ...and that's that...and if it doesn't sell, I'm gonna re-stone it and have it altered again and keep right on wearing it

From what I've noticed, standard gowns focus on decorating and enhancing movement as it is seen in closed hold...so you tend to see a lot more decoration focused on the back of the dress.

Smooth gowns are made to move a little more...you'll probably notice somewhat different construction to work with the greater freedom of movement.
