Looking to Teach Dance

Hello, I am 20 and a Junior at the University of Minnesota. I have been dancing for almost 18 years now, and have taught dance back in my hometown for 2 years. I am interested in finding a teaching job up here in Minneapolis! Can anyone help me? PLEASE help, I miss teaching!

Welcome to the forums Sarah/Jetski! :D

I'm nowhere near your area so, unfortunately, can't help out on that front. If you tell us what styles of dance your interested in teaching though, I'm sure anyone who has a lead for you will be happy to point you in the right direction.

There's an online dance job bank -- is it called dancejobs.com? (I'll google for it a little later and post)

Or, you might try getting a copy of Dance Teacher magazine -- there are some ads there. Or, if you're looking to teach ballroom, you might want to try dancescape.com, or the homepages of the major franchise studios. All have job postings.

Good luck.

Yup dancejobs.com

But if you google [google]dance jobs[/google], you'll get a bunch more matches for dance job banks. Go for it!

In my observation, at least for ballroom dancers, the best approach to getting a job seemed to be to walk in to the studio, resume in hand, if possible. The folks who mailed in resumes got pretty much ignored.

Does anybody here have suggestions on how to go after a dance job?

I am looking to teach Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, ect. Thanks for the posts everyone! I will definetly look into dancejobs.com Thanks for the advice as well, I will let everyone know what happens! Wish Me Luck!

Best of luck. Dance Teacher magazine, dancejobs.com, and a couple of the other googled links are good places to look for jobs in your preferred dance disciplines.

One more thought, jetski. Try googling [google]dance sample resume[/google]. It tried it, and got a couple nice looking resumes -- totally different from the resume formats I am used to.
