Stolen dance shoes

The other day at my studio, somone stole a pair of dance shoes that were left out. I was grossed out...who would steal a pair of someone else's well-worn, stinky dancing shoes, but apparently it isn't unknown.

Has anyone else had their shoes nicked? I've always found dancers to be a supremely honest bunch. Hell, I leave my bag open and purse out for hours on end at a social and have never had a problem.
 
I am so sorry Shamby. :( Maybe they're trying to steal some of your moves by walking in your shoes. 8) I know, this is unfortunate and extremely wrong. I haven't had that done to me but if it did, I would upset as well. :evil:

Thanks Peach. That's very kind of you and that's a funny way of looking at it (walking in my shoes ha ha). I have been lurking for a long time.

The shoes weren't mine but I did know the girl whose shoes they were. She was pretty upset. She's very careful now.
 
My former coach had his well broken in dance shoes stolen from his studio which is adjacent to his house. Which means that, most likely, one of his students nicked the shoes during a small group dance class. Yuck!
 
A few months ago someone broke into my car and stole my shoes! Smashed the window right out . . . Actually, the shoes were in a black cloth bag that must have looked like a purse - I probably should have thought about that . . . I hope the theives are enjoying their two new pairs of stinky, tan-colored, size 2 1/2 high heels. :lol: (and hurrah for the showtimedanceshoes.com sale page - replaced them both for $29 each pair!)
 
The theft may have more to do with causing the (former) owner grief than appropriating something to wear.
 
Shamby, welcome to the forums. I've heard of shoes being stolen, but only once or twice. I don't think it happens very often, thank goodness. Us dancers are generally an honest lot. Perhaps there's merit in JohnK's comment about it being meant to cause the owner grief of some sort.
 
Thanks SwingKitten. I'm glad I found this place. I don't think my virtual shoes would get stolen in a place like this. :)

Peachexploration, thank you and Delamusic you inspired me. I no longer keep my shoes in the back of my car as a result of your story.

Madamsamba I think you're right. I'm sure it was just a one off thing and hopefully it won't happen again.

I don't know about that - I think that it has more to do with the fact that most people's dance shoes really require a biological hazard suit to get anywhere near.

Sarah, I'm sure that's a relevant point when it comes to things like shoes, but personally at my regular socials, I generally toss my bag somewhere and go off dancing.

Inside is my purse, mobile phone and all sorts of other things of monetary value and I've never had an incident. One time I even left my bag wide open thinking I'd be back in a second. I got asked to dance and forgot about it. I cam back an hour later and it was there, still open and untouched. My purse was visible to anyone nearby.

I wouldn't make a habit of it because that's just tempting fate and I know that not everyone is as honest, everywhere, but I think generally people are.
 
Same here. I've never had anything of value taken at a dance, even when it was wide open and begging to be stolen.
